The Library's signage is more aggressive than I expected...

"Ferme ta gueule" litteraly means "Shut your maw" in French, but would be better translated as "Shut the fuck up".
Note: Generally just don't say it unless you're ready to fight. You can say "Roh ferme ta gueule putain" to your good friends here and there, as long as it's accompanied by a large smile, but this is pro level though so be careful.
This is golden.
Have the library scenes always been filmed so tilted? Only just noticed it this last episode, and wonder if it's always been off like that.
Yes, since their first scene it has always been tilted, just not always at the same angle or direction.
Right on. As we approach the finale for this season, I'm trying to take note as they go through the library on my rewatch.
Personally, I thought the 'tilted' aspect must have began when magic was shut off, but didn't ever really notice it was every shot there until ep 12.
I think it might be to give it that feeling of being off and other-worldly.
The underworld and the neitherlands/library have always been tilted. They are another dimension basically, one kind of adjacent to many of the others and the physics are different there. Its a good way to let the viewer know where the scene is, you can tell just with a visual cue if its earth/fillory or if its elsewhere. Clever imo
All of the Neitherlands scenes are tilted, and the library is in the Neitherlands.
I think it's just the underworld branch? I think the other underworld scenes even outside the library were tilted too.
No, it's just how that specific shot was framed.
Library/ Neitherlands are shot almost exclusively with the “Dutch angle”, which is tilted. This particular shot is even more tilted than normal, though
What are you talking about? There isn't a single unslanted library scene
In all honestly they have shown themselves to be substantially more aggressive than their exterior demeanor suggests.
The librarian looks very 1950s prim and proper, but even taking the events of the last show out of the equation (for spoilers) she exiled her daughter for not following library rules, they sign people up for billion year contracts and they have deadly traps in the library that just that we've seen caused the death of two of the characters.
they also seem to have 0 qualms about getting magic from faerie bones or doing pretty much anything immoral. it seems like their goal is information at all costs, without caring who stands in the way.
Yup.
They want information AND they want to control who has access to it.
They seem to be taking it a step further after the last show, crossing two really big lines in the process.
from what they've said about the library, it doesn't seem to be the first time they've crossed such huge lines. it seems like that's a normal thing, it's just usually much easier to keep behind the scenes. (without magic, they appear much more desperate and have trouble keeping everything a controlled secret as they'd like.)
we still haven't really seen their agenda. i don't think it's as simple as controlling the spread of information.
I actually wonder if the library may be a future big bad.
Oh, it's totally in line with the rest of their attitude, I just needed a title that highlighted the signage without giving away the punchline.
... and they have deadly traps in the library ...
Unless I missed something, the Mirror Bridge wasn't a trap, but a backdoor into the library. While unpleasant, they would have been within their rights to forcibly throw someone out. Remember that banks also have a "shoot first, question later" approach to trespassers.
I’m not talking the mirror bridge, I’m talking the poison that killed the girl whose name escapes me and ultimately killed penny’s body.
Edit
Also while I have no issues throwing someone out, capturing etc in particular with their end goals, going for a kill is honestly a step past that to me.
’m not talking the mirror bridge, I’m talking the poison that killed the girl whose name escapes me and ultimately killed penny’s body.
You meant the Poison Room? That place is a bit odd since it's not exactly easy to get into in the first place and you have to know that it's worth getting into. At that point you likely already know about the fact that the atmosphere is poison. Given how things need to line up, I'm not sure you could call the place a trap per se.
The "legal" system with regards to Magicians seems a bit usual since it doesn't seem like they have trials or the like. I get the impression that within the context of magical society, it's considered acceptable to try and outright kill someone if they are someplace they aren't supposed to be.
I’m not exactly saying that their actions are illegal or even against the rules of magic, but my main point was that for the polite and prim and proper facade they put on they are aggressive in how they defend their views on the magic and its usage.
EAT MY ASS
I can't tell if that is a response or a kinky bunny.
i see "shut the fuck up" in russian, which i still remember for some reason.
No, actually it's just "shut up". Not on the same level with STFU.
Hold så kæft! 😂 (hold kæft =shut up, hold så kæft = I’m tired of your shit, SHUT UP NOW! Danish btw.)
This is hilarious and so great. Just keep getting more and more respect for this show!
Wow didn’t even see that they got Danish on there.. nice :D
"Cállate la boca" is Spanish for "shut your mouth", and is often heard from parents yelling at their kids.
One of the rare times when there is the correct Greek translation of stfu
[deleted]
They all translate to variations of "Shut up."
Omg. That is hilarious.
Are any y'all Chinese speakers? I recognize the first character as a poorly written 默。 Which is silent . But the second character I don't recognize
That is actually not Chinese but Japanese
Yup. It's "damare" which means "shut up!", of course :)
Lol, I read that and thought “oh that’s harsh”, and then I read the last one :)
My bad I should have recognized it as Japanese. The first kanji character I recognized.
Meanwhile kapa çeneni isnt exactly equal to stfu in Turkish, im okay with it.
It’s the closest that comes to my mind, what else?
Kes sesini is more equal of rudeness to stfu
I was about to post this but you beat me to it. I saw the fourth line (Indonesian) when I was watching and at first seriously thought it was mistranslated since it quite literally says "Shut yo mouth" then read STFU and laughed out loud
I too recognized the Indonesian
