The more lore is retconned the less I care about it

Completely changing the stories of who champions are makes me care about the lore less and less, because it removes any feeling that their lore is who they are, instead it's just some random story to go with the champion.

Nautilus was an abandoned diver, great, fantastic, leave it like that. I don't care if he doesn't fit in perfectly with every single Bilgewater champions lore. Okay, now you made him an evil sea monster, why should I care anymore about what you say he is next? Maybe he will be 3 gay guys in a diving suit, it doesn't matter because you've already established it doesn't matter.

Karma was someone willing to fight for peace, that was the whole point of her old character, now it's been decided none of that matters because the new Karma doesn't want to fight, ever.

Changing the lore so much just makes me not care what the lore is. I used to be somewhat interested, not anymore.

You’d rather it be a mess with unfinished stories and things that don’t make sense?

maybe you finish the story instead of rewriting it then

The point is that the can't finish the stories. And they become too complicated to force new characters and themes into them.

It's better that they have a whole cohesive strategy going in, which is what they're doing currently.

Finishing stories, tying up loose ends, or adding a little bit to tie in with other lore is very different from just rewriting the entire thing. The varus lore is a good example, they could've just updated it a little to make it clear that the darkness he was guarding was the darkin bow varus while keeping the lore overall the same. Instead they just randomly changed all of it which makes it clear that the lore is just going to be changed on a whim and makes it feel pointless.

I don't think that's the case, and they haven't finished writing all of the lore yet, there could be a valid reason for the change.

Then again, I honestly don't think the Varus change was all the bad, it was net neutral for me.

Really, shoving more stuff into existing stuff is just a lazy way of writing new things in. "Hey, remember that thing that happened? Well this new thing was in there the entire time and we just didn't think to tell you before!" That's always the laziest to me.

I don't really think the new lore is bad it just didn't feel like it needed to be changed. I would've vastly preferred a small update where they kept the same underlying story and just said something along the lines of: "Were updating Varus' lore to be more consistent with the darkins that have recently been added to lore".

No one cares about lore anyway, its a game, not an anime.
