If Season 3 does in fact begin on May 8th, you have 27 days left to earn the Crucible Helmet ornament. One win a day is all it takes.

I know the state of the Competitive playlist is less than stellar, but if you can stomach it I definitely think that helmet ornament will be one of those things that you're proud of owning once people can't get it anymore. If you haven't started yet, you've got less than a month to get it if Season 3 does start on the 8th of May. Play until you win and then quit, once a day, and you'll get the ornament. There are also quite a few posts popping up on the LFG sites looking for more people to help grind out the ornaments. Go get that ornament before it's too late!

I actually played a matchmade game with you tonight. You're one of the few people that actually used team chat to be encouraging, so thanks! There was a guy on our team being a bit of a dick and the guy I was in a fireteam with got a little frustrated with him in chat. Sorry about that, he tilts easily.

Yeah, on Javelin I think. Me and my friend had been playing for about five hours straight at that point marathoning it. That was the game where we realized were were losing our edge and needed a break. Was a fun game, though! Small world indeed. I was browsing through my saved comment to and saw this one and realized I'd seen that person lately.

Definitely a fun game, saw some blame thrown around in text chat, it happens, we turned around 0-3 to 4-3, pretty sure, it was impressive.

DLC releasing with the start of Season 3 was already confirmed by Chris Barrett.

As far as my memory serves, He confirmed the DLC will drop in May, but never confirmed the official date. And I also can't remember Bungie confirming the date of the May Patch, which is what made such a big deal when people noticed the French TWAB including the date

I thought so. Since the trailer hasn't dropped yet, I know there is a greater chance that the DLC/Patch may be later in May. THere is still plenty of time, so it could be May 8th, which does seem likely

Date has not been confirmed by Bungie yet. I am unsure if the translations are done inside Bungie or by a third party, if the latter; it might've been a miscommunication.

I think it was two weeks ago. I know it was in the last 3 weeks for sure, but i feel it was 2 weeks.

The mention TWAB has already been fixed/adjusted

There has been speculation that was seemingly confirmed two weeks ago in the French version of the TWAB, but I haven't seen anything to back it up since then.

As far as I'm aware, CoO was the first time they'd introduced a DLC on the same day as its patch. I don't remember TDB, but HoW, TTK, and RoI all preloaded.

Either way, it's getting down to the point now where getting those wins is going to be harder for the people who don't play much/any PvP. I play Trials every weekend and I didn't get the ornament until they made Trials wins count toward the ornament. It's probably the hardest non-raid, non-trials ornament to get in the game, I would hate for people to miss out on it because they ran out of time. Better safe than sorry, I think.

There is a difference between pre-loading and a patch though. Getting a patch on release day isn't uncommon.

For Destiny, it is. IIRC, patches for HoW,tTK, and RoI were all released ahead of DLC. The DLC was then unlocked through hotfixes on launch day.

I was just expect a little more leading up to Warmind. but I don't blame them for not.

People are already complaining about a "drought in the summer", as if destiny hasn't dealt with that every year...

As if every persistent PvE game doesn't deal with droughts. I don't know why people expect Destiny to be any different than any other game when it comes to stuff like that.

You are preaching to the choir. I like that they have a system that does have more consistency to delivering PvE content. There is some improvements that need to be made, but the long term looks good

I might also recommend playing competitive Friday-Monday if you are going for the helmet. It's just my experience, but there seemed to be more solo-que players and less stacked teams running because those who could find a team of 4 were running trials.

This matches my experience -- especially if you are playing solo most of the time like me, you'll just end up running into teams of 4 that will just demolish you if you play during days where there are no competitive, team-based Crucible matches. When Trials is going on, it's great -- teams are usually all solo players, and I'll frequently run into people who don't even know about the tie breaker and are running around trying to get Power ammo, and helping us win because they don't even go for the control point.

I started late on this ornament, but was able to grind it out, and my experience was:

  • no Trials = 8 wins after 45 matches, or 17% win ratio
  • during Trials = 17 wins after 25 matches, or 68% win ratio

YMMV, of course, but at one point during Trials, I got 8 wins in a row, and 2 of them was after someone on my team dropped out, making it 4v3, and there's one win in there where 2 people dropped out, making it 4v2, but we still won, which goes to show there are plenty of noobs around, still.

It's the only ornament I didn't get, came back to try to get it a month ago, waited 7 minutes finding a match, decided it wasn't worth sitting in space forever, gave up

This also means, since there's only three full weeks, that there will likely only be one Iron Banner to get the melee kill ornament (or possibly none if they can't fix the bug).

If push comes to shove I would hope they just push 4v4 Iron Banner back out for those people who don't have everything yet. It's better than nothing, and with a new expansion coming I'm sure we'll see at least a few people who haven't played in a while coming back to get caught up.

I honestly don't know why people complain about this ornament being too difficult to get. They have no perseverance. You just need one win a day for a month!

I think part of it is the discrepency between this ornament and the rest of them. The rest are ridiculously easy and don't actually require you to accomplish anything, and then you've got this one where the goal is to not only win matches, but to win them in the least-populated, sweatiest playlist. Setting aside the issues with queue times for Comp and having to re-enter matchmaking after each match, it just isn't rewarding for most people to play it.

I play Trials every week and I hadn't touched the competitive playlist since Season 1 before today. I wouldn't have the ornament right now if it weren't for them changing it to where Trials wins count toward it. Competitive is just not in a good place these days. From the few matches I played today, Matchmaking feels awful. I got into a game with seven other randoms, no fireteams, and it sorted the lobby into teams where one side had an 80% chance to win and a 250+ Average ELO advantage. Next game was only slightly better, with one team having a 68% win chance and a ~150 Average ELO advantage. That's just not acceptable for a "competitive" playlist. It's also not noticeably more rewarding than Quickplay, and that's something that definitely needs to change if they want more people to venture in to the playlist. Still, though, one win a day isn't too hard. Even if you're only winning one in five, that's still only about an hour a day.

I still need 18 more wins, but I don't see myself getting it cause it would mean I would have to play crucible and I am not solo-queuing competitive playlist against stacked teams.

Ya, but you would have to play D2 crucible to get it. Not worth it IMO.

I am not a great crucible player, but i managed to get my 25 wins in one weekend playing competitive the weekend after the go fast update. I like the no radar thing, actually makes crucible fun for me.

my problem is that i just started playing again since the first Iron Banner. i quit when it took me 52 packages to get my armor for my titan, and that took all my spare time from start of tuesday until sunday night. Managed to get a class item for warlock too, but that's it.

Now i have no ornaments for IB gear, and no ornaments for faction gear (only have set of Dead Orbit for all 3 characters), and will never get to finish that b/c it's all season 2 only, and i didn't even know about it :(

Yes. Same with all the other ornaments - you only need to earn them once, and they're account-wide.

Same. I got both the Vanguard & Crucible Armor in like 3ish weeks (The ones that required milestones may have taken an extra week)
