Looking for a (free) coach? Maybe I am your guy ^^

Coaching

Hi! I'm Aki, I've played Overwatch since the beta and I really fell in love with this game. So much infact, that I convinced some of my friends to play it too... and they're hooked now too ^^ But since I have a bit more experience with shooters and online gaming in generall

(I've played many other shooters, some even competitively, including but not limited to TF2, CSGO, Quake 3 Arena (and defrag), Reflex FPS, some CoD (whatever xD), and many other less known ones, and i have experience in other genres like mobas (LoL) and rts (SC2))

and, since we obviously wanted to play together I had to get them somewhere close to my experience. This worked pretty well (one of them just raced past me and is now even better at OW than me XD), but that made me think, sicne I enjoyed this kind of teaching, especially since I learned something myself too. Then I stumbled over people like IoStux and others, who brought me to the topic of coaching and with that into E-Sports Psychology. That got me very interested since I have psychology in school and its very interesting. To combine that with me teaching videogames just was music in my ears, but then reality hit me in the face and I noticed I was still at square one.

SO I want to get some experience and help people to improve at the same time. If you want someone to "coach" you, completely for free of course, just comment, send me a dm or add me on discord Aki#2026 directly and we will find the best way to make it happen for you.

A bit personal stuff at last, I am an 18 yo guy from Germany, I've almost finished school and I have time almost everyday, so I'm pretty flexible.

~Aki

For real though, I would be down if I had the time to actually git gud.

1
akithebronyOP•

i think time is more of a factor of actually getting to the rank, improving itself mostly takes much less time if you get what im saying

imho overwatch is less a game of perfection of mechanics but of mastering the gameplay and knowledge

if you want you can still add me on discord

1
Avacadontt•

You sound cool, would I be able to chuck you a friend request for just playing or strictly coaching only?

2
akithebronyOP•

nah dude, add me for whatever you want xD

2
Cedric1234•

It says i can't send a request on discord and that you'll need to add me, I'm cedric1234_#8167 on discord

I'm just getting into overwatch, been on for just under a month, and am ~2100-2200 sr scrub. I've played csgo and tf2 (~LE csgo like 2 yrs ago, ~200 tf2 scrims), and am really looking for someone to teach me. I have irl friends at diamond/master, but none of them have any idea how to teach, and just kinda sit there watching me like , "dude wtf?"

Playing at the moment and I’d love some coaching; pm me!

1
akithebronyOP•

you meant like right then? xD im sorry i was sleeping, but if you still could use some help add me on discord: Aki#2026 and we can arrange something

1
OTTERWARLOCK•

Not a problem lol; I’m usually free to play most evenings after 5pm EST. Will be on this evening and will add you then; I’ve not yet used or made VOD’s (willing to learn, I’m sure they’re simple enough) and atm would prefer live spectate coaching, if you’re partial to that. If not then VOD’s will have to suffice

1
akithebronyOP•

ofc id also like to do it live, do you have discord?

1
OTTERWARLOCK•

U know it bb 😎 I’ll dm you both my blizz and discord rn

What rank are you, if I may ask.

akithebronyOP•

i have two accounts around 2.8sr ive been a bit in diamond but due to my finals im not finding the motivation to grind comp atm

2
Tieyo•

No offense, but if you want to climb most people will be more willing if you are higher ranked. Some people (like me) do not want to be coached by people who are only 1 rank higher or lower than they are. It is condescending. A gold will not want help from a silver as the gold is, pretty much, always better than the silver.

akithebronyOP•

I know, but the thing is i cant coach like 20 people at once, so it is actually in my interest if very few actually answer me ^^

2
akithebronyOP•

also, you should consider the fact that a coach is some kind of outsourcing, because many people dont have the motivation/time to rewatch their vods over and over and focus on details and all that stuff and, adding to that more people see more misstakes, nonetheless are you right, but as said in this post ( https://www.reddit.com/r/OverwatchUniversity/comments/8c2of7/why_skillrating_is_completely_irrelevant_to_be_a/ ) the coach has to be more than just good/better than the one to be coached

2
Bakingxpancake•

Sr doesn’t matter for coaching, you just need a good understanding of the game. I remember there was a post here that said sr for coaching doesn’t matter. personally I’m a high masters/low gm player and I’m not very good at coaching my self but I can point out a few mistakes but not as much as other coaches who are lower sr than me.

A gold coach doesn't understand Plat games because they haven't been in Plat.

A Plat coach doesn't understand Diamond games because they haven't been in diamond

A diamond coach doesn't understand masters games because they haven't been in masters.

Coaching somebody for Solo Queue is A LOT different than coaching for a team because there are a lot more things you can work on.

He'd be doing more harm than good

Coaching is not really about how you need to play in your rank though. It's about teaching someone what they need to do generally in the game to get better and reach the highest ranks. A coach can be someone who understands the game as good as a Professional player but can still be in Plat because of lacking mechanical skills for instance. There's people who can break down why something that happens in the OWL games happened the way it did, without them being GM players. Look at all the Overwatch League casters. None of them are GM and they understand all the Plays. Some of them are even as low as in Gold from what I've heard.
