Albany, NY based rucking group starting up

We've had a Facebook page for a few years with 60ish members and no activity. That is about to change. I'm spearheading (get it?) an effort to grow our local group and get more consistent events going. We have a beginner's ruck coming up this weekend 4.28 as well as a TACO RUCK to some local authentic Mexican establishments on 5.6 too. I thought I'd share here in case anyone is in our area and wants to join.

Our page is 518TOUGH and the group, events, etc. are all linked through that page.

Good luck! I suspect we'll be seeing a lot more of these pop up now that GORUCK is doing the monthly ruck club callouts :) People are highly motivated by patches I think and they can only earn these as part of a club.

You should get in touch with a couple of the larger ruck club leaders to see if they can offer you any advice on how to get things to grow. I suspect consistency in meet ups is probably a big part of it though.

Yea that's one of the things mentioned in the ruck club manual from HQ is consistent meetings. We are between Syracuse and NYC so we have a decent number of GR events each year within about 2.5 hour drive. It's not a bad location just needs some leadership.

Nice. Yea, I was pointed to my ruck club via HQ when I wrote in for a customer support inquiry. Not sure how often they do that type of thing but definitely see if Bomber can point some people your way :)

Man,I moved from Albany two-three years ago. I wish I had started rucking then. The area is so flat. I’m now in Knoxville,tn and it’s nothing but hills. I’ll join the group so when I visit family, I can’t hopefully meet up.

Nah man check out GORUCK.com. Endurance challenges built around principles of military training and ruck marches. I saw in your post history you've posted in r/Albany, you local to the 518?

Correct! 518. That's cool, I'm not mil but did a few of these on college for fun.
