I feel your pain. However, the console is young and many games are on the horizon!

I am very excited for the new smash bros game, but the fact that online play will be charged and not be even close to the quality UI of PSN or xbox live bums me out

I agree with you. Many games are just for nostalgia or just not very good. I like PixelArt when it's done well to but some games just look bad :\
my favorite games with the prices at the time of writing are:
Celeste (20$)
Splatoon 2 (60$)
Rocket league (20$)
Stardew valley (15$)
Games I don't own but heard good things about:
Snipper clips demo was awesome
I actually found dragon quest builders fun but a lot of people didn't! So... try the demo? I only tried the demo though. (60$)
steamworld dig! (??)
Golf story (15$)
Fast RMX (15$)
Xenoblade chronicles 60$
A night in the woods 20$
darks souls remastered when it comes?
L.A. Niore (60$)
Skyrim (60$)
Bayonetta 2 (50$ on eshop)
Bayonetta (20$??)

half that list is just re-released games that are 1/4 the price on other platforms

What kind of games do you like? That will help people recommend similar ones.

action adventure shooter indies if they're done right or anything with great online play. I'm really disappointed nintendo is going to start charging for online play when their online infrastructure is about 20 years behind. I used to play PS2 online and the games were better set up than nintendo's.

Sure, have fun with the PS2!

Cool, I guess if you’re a fan of something you’re dismissed if you think they should be delivering a product that’s relevant for the time. Good to know!
