Kind of get a Where the Sidewalk Ends feel from this, its interesting, though I wonder if the subject matter is meant to be darker than the tone of the style?

Not exactly what inspired this but very similar! Very much about the words that peoples are heads with and how they can poison us! 

Maybe this is totally out there, because I’ve recently smoked a blunt, but I feel like this kind of describes the affect that jealousy and drama have on a relationship. As a woman who is very popular, yet really keeps to myself, relationships are difficult. Especially in a small town like the one I grew up in. When you start seeing somebody, people start talking. Words spread like fire and soon, everybody wants to talk shit. “Oh you know he did this.. he did that.. blah blah blah rumors and bullshit.” 
And it used to really get to me. Because before you and that person have even had time to actually get to know each other, it’s too late. Your heads are filled with poison; claims about each other that may or may not be true. You will always have those doubts. But that’s just me...

Inside your ears live serpents 

They are hiding in the trees 

I stutter inside slowly

They start to fall on me 


I get tangled in their bodies

Their tails twist around the chords 

You can’t hear the thing I’m saying 
 
 You can’t see me anymore 


I scream for help  and they are hissing 

You see snakes so you’re afraid 

You strike back not exactly missing 

But it’s me caught in the fray 


I start to throw the snakes off 

But they fly straight at you 

Before we know it we’re poisoned

You did it to me and I did it to you 


Because inside your ears are serpents 

They are hiding in the trees

I come in to say “please trust me” 

But they are already falling on to me
