Duality
I walked into your office
You were crying
I'd pointed out
How the cowboys see you differently
Fragile
Delicate
Feminine
So you wrapped tightly white tape around your chest
A beautiful boy
Dressed in baggy clothes
And I knew you loved me then
Because I saw you as you are
Beyond fragility
Femininity
Beauty
A wildfire untamable
A wisdom unquantifiable
An intelligence unparalleled
And you knew I loved you then
Because you saw me as I am
Beyond a rough exterior
Masculine
Charismatic
My duality as you liked to call it
Always the better poet
I showed you how to dance as a woman
You taught me to channel and flow
As warriors
True to ourselves
Stoic
Open
Vulnerable
Commanding respect
Worshipping our bodies
Tempering our minds
Cultivating our hearts
Through discipline and meditation
Like maniacs
We'd laugh between sobs
Cause no one else knew
The unfathomable depths
Of our insanity
Our ugliness
Our little secrets
You'd run alone
For miles
Through wild country
Until you’d nothing left to prove
I'd stay at home
Playing guitar
Until my bleeding heart outgrew
Need of your affirmation
I never got angrier
Than when you'd look to me for guidance
I am as lost as you
What ever shall you do
When I am gone
It seemed cruel
But the world is crueler
And so you grew strong
Into your own person
Until you followed no man
In pursuit of your own dreams
Known only to you and me
Without need of my kindling
It's almost unbelievable
To look at us now
No longer orbiting
Each other's celestial light
Drifting freely
Of my our accord
Our love
A big big wind in our sails
Singing and dancing alone
Not tethered to smartphones
An energy harnessed
Only you and I know
Each moment more pure
More beautiful than the last
For we knew the world
It would anoint us
Once we'd shown it
How we hold it
