Blood Type

  I am trying to be Positive
To laugh at the appropriate times and mean it
To think like a less broken person
To hold your hand as tight as you hold mine
And believe you’re not going to let go
To ignore the waves of nothingness when they come
And enjoy the empty beaches of peace in my brain when the tide recedes

 

I am trying to be Positive
To match your blood type to my mood
A Positive person
Smiling and laughing
Okay with the world

 

I would even settle for B Positive
Which is what my mother always used to say
And I have tried to be the combination of the two
An AB Positive, O Positive I am trying to be Positive
But it’s in my blood

 

The past manifested itself in my future long before I knew the feeling that came with it

 

I had a heart set in stone from the beginning
“O Negative thoughts will hold you back in life.”
“O Negativity will only bring more darkness.”

 

But my blood regenerates as the same type again and again no matter how many times I’ve tried to bleed it out of me

 

And it is hard to be Positive

 

When even your blood is not.
