This is probably TMI, I've got horrible PMS ever since i've had Kids and don't know how to deal

So ever since my kids were born, I've been PMSsing pretty hard for the 2-3 weeks leading up to my period (my menstrual cycle is not normal, usually 6-7 weeks). No physical symptoms, just the mood swings and anxiety are driving me nuts. I've got a high stress job and this isn't helping, I'm obsessing over all the little nonsense. It's actively interfering with my ability to do my job properly, I need to be able to keep a level head in high stress conditions. Which I'm normally very able to do, but not when I'm PMSsing.

I've tried hormonal birth control before I had kids, but even on the mini pill I get terrible mood swings, so I'm hesitant to try those again. Guess I'm just extremely sensitive to hormones.

Anyone tried something that made a big impact? A certain kind of vitamins (I've heard B6 and magnesium?), herbal tea, exercises, anything?

I have this now too. I used to be a super even person and then it’s like I lost my mind. I started seeing a therapist and I just started getting used to watching out for it. I can tell when I’m ovulating and about to start my period bc I turn into a monster. It’s mostly like being super annoyed and rage that doesn’t go away for hours. I wish I knew how to help! I just try to stay away and watch my mouth around that time. Not sure if it’s normal or not, but even with birth control it didn’t help. You’ll start to recognize it though, just be patient with yourself. Vitamin D helps a little

I'm also having terrible anxiety due to PMS after my second pregnancy. Anxiety that makes me question if my husband and kids would be better off without me. Then after about 3-5 days of this I get my period. I've only had 2 periods so far, but I'm scared of them now. I also don't get on well with hormonal birth control, and now that my husband got a vasectomy, I don't want to try any more. Please let me know if you find anything that helps.

Will do!

Thanks everyone for their responses. It helps to know I'm not alone!

So far I've got on my to try list:

  • progesterone cream

  • Saint Johns wort

  • Vitamin D (already taking that though)

  • Exercise and loose some more weight. I'm not that much overweight but could still loose some baby fat. My google search into progesterone cream told me these hormonal imbalances can be caused by badly functioning kidneys, which in turn can be caused by being overweight.

  • see a naturopath/acupuncturist. I like science and prefer regular doctors over homeopathy, but at this point I'm willing to try just about anything.

I'll do some experiments with myself as test subject and will report back on results! It is going to take quit some time though, I'm afraid..

Try CBD drops if it’s legal where you live. Life-changing for anxiety sufferers.

I would recommend the Mirena IUD. It has done wonders for my mood, and I no longer get periods.

Make sure to get some time away from your children (besides work). One hour once a week will help, even if it is just running errands child free.

This is the only time I have ever hearf anyone ever say anything nice about minera.

Yeah, mine ruined my personality.

The mirena always terrified me, but I have Implanon and I think it's pretty sweet.

Unfortunately, I also have the ragey anxious PMS but I think I always had that and never made the PMS connection :/

Is that the arm insertion rod? That gives me the heebie jeebies. My anxiety skyrocketed and my motivation plummeted. Plus I was a raging b word the first year I had it. I'm debating taking it out but don't know what else I would use. Hormone birth control always messes with me.

Ok.... same. Like hulk out PMS. Look into progesterone cream if you are comfortable. It's been a life saver for me. Many women are estrogen dominant and it can cause these issues.

My friend swears by acupuncture. She was struggling BAD and has been on an acupuncture regiment for the last few months. She said she has 0 PMS now.

I'm struggling with this as well. From ovulation to cycle start, I have a lot of impact on my mental health. From cycle start to ovulation, I'm easy-going.

It's time consuming, but I use exercise to fight the mental health impact. It does work but rest days are still difficult.

I use Saint John's Wort and it does wonders.

Do you consume artificial sweeteners at all? Once I cut those out my pms almost disappeared entirely.

I had something similar but different, my symptoms were all at ovulation time instead, my doctor didn't seem too interested in helping but I saw a naturopath (not a homeopath) who thought my body was having trouble processing estrogen. She ended up giving me a prescription for a supplement to boost estrogen absorption/processing (something like that) and I was better in a couple months!

Having a kid can throw things of whack...I highly recommend looking into how your body is dealing with the estrogen/progesterone balance with a doctor or naturopath.
