feminist poetry? (spoken word)

"i want to write more feminist poems".
no... wait...
that's too easy.
okay, "i want to write more good feminist poems",
because when poems aren't written
by a dead white guy
suddenly for some reason they
actually need to be good.

i want to write poems about my romantic,
sexual, experiences with men
without you thinking i'm a slut.
i want to use the word "slut"
without you assuming it's
a political statement.
i want to make a political statement
without you assuming it's about
my gender.

i want to speak with the confidence
of a twenty-something douche-bag.

i want the world to spin in a different direction,
only for a day,
and just to see what happens.

also
i don't want you to think i'm smart and funny.

i want you to assume i'm smart and funny
-- at least until proven otherwise.

why do i always have to prove it
the other way around?

i want to write about the things i love
and the things that make me angry
or excited
and have people assume they're important
and not that i'm crazy.

like,
i want to write feminist poetry,
like (i guess)
what i'm doing right now,
and i want you to think that's important.
and then, someday,
i want to write good feminist poetry
so then (i hope)
you'll have to think it's important.
