I Am at a River
I am at a river
It knows my name
Its familiar oily surface
Forever perfect for hiding decay
Sirens whisper songs
From former glory days
Mocking and sweet
Enticing me to drown in sonic waves
The current is cruel
In mirror-like ways
It is ruthless and bold
Until it breaks for morning rain
Lights twinkle and dance
On the blanket near this bank
The river screams a too-bright moon
Back into my face
Reflections denied entry
For being so daringly bright
They do not belong to the river
I cannot see my face tonight
I am at a river
It knows my name
Dazzling serenity, cold and insane
Scaly sisters tonight have won their game
