Sober
Sober
Been five months clean, toxicity untouched.
But the smell of strong water still lingers,
Tainted and tempting, on my lips it brushed.
Close, but far from the grasp of my fingers.
Nightly calls of despondency return,
Urging me to take just one more sweet sip.
The thoughts in my head, broken like re-runs,
Like those bad dramas that make your heart rip.
But one action will lead to another,
One drink can kill all the nephrons inside.
The need to resist is real, like fear,
Relapse and flare-ups that will never hide.
That is why no matter how much they call,
Ignore it, or it will be your downfall.
