PC won’t post.

Solved

Hey, everyone. I’m putting a new mobo, cpu, and ram into my pc as those are currently 5+ years old.

I’m trying to install a z270-a pro motherboard, an i5-8600k cpu, and Corsair vengeance lpx ddr4 2x8gb 3000mhz RAM

The parts I’m keeping, gpu, psu, hdd’s case, and heat sink.

Gpu: MSI Rx580 8gb Psu: thermaltake 650w start series. (Old one died picked this up at Best Buy, not my first choice but it’ll do) Heat sink: that cheap-ass hyper212 that everyone probably has.

So my problem, when everything is connected the pc will power in for 1/2second then power off. The ez fix light on the mobo lights for the cpu.

I’ve tried swapping my ram around, only plugging in the mobo and cpu power, a new mobo, no heatsink... when unplugging the cpu power the pc will stay powered on.

I’ve been up for nearly 24hrs now unfortunately so sorry if I miss anything or my brain doesn’t work but I don’t really know where to go from here. I’ve tried pretty much all of the usual “won’t post” steps and this is even a second cpu.

I would start with just the motherboard. Unplug your hard drives and anything else connected to the mobo. Leave the power supply, CPU + heatsink. Turn the motherboard on by jumping the front panel pins with a screwdriver, don't leave your front panel plugged in.

Do you get the same result?

Unplugged everything and jumped start, same results

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but read this: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en-US&ie=UTF-8&source=android-browser&q=can+z270+fit+8th+gen+processors&gws_rd=ssl

Coffee Lake (Intel 8th gen chips) will not work in any z170 or z270 motherboards. You need a z370 motherboard.

Ahhh I see well at least I know what it is now.

First, go to sleep.

Second, when you wake up, reset CMOS BIOS by jumper. MSI calls it JBAT1, and read more on page 34 of the manual on how to do it.

Third, that Evo212 is quite the cooler for the money if not overclocking.

I did that, same results. Powers on then shuts off 1/2second later
