The Saga of Gertrude, Ol' Gertrude MacClyde
Hello, there! I’m Gertrude.
Yes, Gertrude MacClyde
And I’ve nicknamed meself
With a whole lot of pride.
Bet me friends are all wonderin’
"What the hell have ye done?"
Well, I’m only just havin’
A wee bit o' fun!
Now, Gertrude's Germanic .
“Ja! Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
My forefathers come
From the north of Europe.
“Ger” meaning “spear”
And “thrud” meaning “strength”
“The strength of a spear”!
Pretty sharp! Don’t you think?
And Mac is a prefix
Bestowed by the Scots
To the wee lads and lasses
Of old Celtic Pops
Aye, Clyde Clarence Parker
Me Pappy was he.
MacClyde fits the bill.
I’m not crazy you see.
"The offspring of Clyde
With the strength of a spear"
Has a nice little ring
To an old Pagan ear.
Like the fun lovin’ Celts
I enjoy a good riddle.
And I hope that me word play's
Amused you a little.
'Cause Gertrude MacClyde
Has the soul of a bard.
But me game is now over.
I’ve shown all me cards
