It's OK to judge and ridicule Flat Earthers because of their beliefs but if you judge and ridicule those that belief in a God or gods you're a hateful bigot asshole because you call them out on the same nonsense.

This is something I've never understood. Believe the Earth is flat? It socially and personally acceptable to call that person out and make fun of them and those that believe the same thing.

Believe in a God though that EQUALLY lacks ALL proof and evidence just like a Flat Earther and all of a sudden you're a religious hating piece of shit scumbag that (according to religious folks most of the time) should die or be killed and shamed to no end.

Why is one ridiculous claim not OK to believe but the other MORE ridiculous claim is OK to believe and if you disagree you need to shut the fuck up unless you wanna get fucked up?

I'm an atheist but here is the difference: "God exists" is a non-falsifiable claim. You can't test it (as long as your definition of "god" is broad enough that it's not based in Biblical literalism or similar). Just like if you say "leprechauns exist," it's a statement that, by design, can never be proved wrong.

"Earth is flat" is a falsifiable claim, and has been proved wrong.

That could be true either way though.

God exists because of miracles.

The flat Earth exists because of government cover ups.

Both are equally (ridiculously) acceptable if we're not going to look into the EVIDENCE of both claims.

Jesus existed a few thousand years ago, i cannot verify his existence or actions, but I cannot disprove them either.

I can run simple experiments to show how the earth is not flat. Government coverups DO NOT ALTER the fundamentals of science.

No, you're talking about them providing evidence for their beliefs.

I'm saying that one of the beliefs can be disproven, and the other one cannot be.

Depends on your views. There's as much evidence against a god then there is a flat Earth in my eyes.

It would be more reasonable to compare UFO/Aliens to religion, because that would be unprovable.

Flat earth is pretty easy to disprove in a number of ways.

no it's not. Our current level of technology means we could not categorically rule it out. There is no test that can prove it one way or the other. even proving everything in the Bible wrong would not be enough to disprove the existence of a god. This is why it is not falsifiable. Where as the earth is flat can be falsified by proving it is a slightly squashed sphere, in fact proving it was a pyramid would also falsify flat earth.

There's plenty of technology and science and proof to disprove a god existing...it's just as a whole we can brush it off easier than that of the flat Earth.

Both are equally crazy and lack sense/evidence but one part of the population believes in one more than the other so it's "OK" to believe in one but not the other.

Please I'd love to hear how you can disprove an abstract being that may or may not have a physical form that could be measured in this plane of existence by current technology. We can't even sure about Alien life and your saying we can disprove god?

Depends on the specific god belief. Most theists will purposely make their definition of "God" broad enough that it can dodge all attempts to disprove it.

You should be able to make fun of any idea. Flat Earthers make fun of people who disagree with them.

i was brought up Pentecostal, i'm atheist now, it's all good. as for flat earth, explorers from around the GLOBE circumnavigated the earth before we had governments to create some mass cover up. but that's not why i'm here. i'm here to ask where you've been the last decade or so. Christianity isn't just accepted as a target to ridicule but is the most popular target. however, it's the religion of peace with a mostly brown following that can't be questioned because they fall under the protection of the whiny liberal/millennial(?). when it looks like a great deal of it's teachings would go straight against their ideology. i got to give it to Muslims tho, my understanding is that they actually DO follow the word of their holy book as they should, as hard as it may be. where almost all of the Christians are luke warm at best. and if you believe in the old testament, are just going to hell anyway for not honoring gods word literally.
