he holds my hands

three squeezes

means "I love you" in

our language

(daddy reminds me

of everything I've been

learning to forget)

you'd see us picking

flowers out of

front yard gardens

because "they're made

for everyone

people just don't realize

that yet"

(I still dove headfirst into

the mundane once he left)

drawing trees

made out of so many

climbing hearts

because daddy used to say

and repeat

"anything can be art"

(and maybe if I could

run fast enough

the memories wouldn't

still catch us apart)
