I climbed a fence to get my ball out of a tree
I was playing tennis and the ball got stuck in the tree. The tree grows over this chain-link fence, and I looked at where the ball got stuck and was like, “I could totally get the ball if I climb this fence.” It’s been a while since I climbed a fence but I figure it’s like riding a bicycle. I make my way to the top easy enough, yoink, got the ball. Realize I need to hands to climb down so I throw the ball down. Realize I’m not gonna be able to climb down cause my feet are losing grip. So I jump. You know how the chain-links of chain-link fences form a set of points at the top? Well this friendship bracelet I’m wearing that my friend made me at summer camp a year ago that I’ve only taken off once or twice gets caught on that part of the fence. My wrist is jerked up from my body and I think I’m gonna die. I land feet-first on the ground, less like a cat and more like a frog, and my bracelet is nowhere to be found. It must have snapped off when it got caught. Good thing it was only tied with a square knot and not something stronger or I could have broke something. Still, I wonder if my friend will care that I lost the bracelet he made. I wonder if he remembers making it for me, or if he knew that I was still wearing it. I don’t even like wearing bracelets—they’re uncomfortable—but I wore that one for a year. No one had ever made me a friendship bracelet before.
