Guess who won't get you coffee again you choosing beggar

Text

This was when I worked at a crappy hospital where we couldn't have coffee pots on the nursing floors. I had one patient ask for coffee, I explained there was none on the floor available. I finished my rounds and had a few minutes so I went downstairs on my break to the cafeteria when it opened and got her 2 cups of coffee, some sugar and cream packets and took them to her, thinking she really appreciated it. A few minutes later my tech came to me and told me the patient took a sip of coffee, then said to her "She didn't even bother to put sugar and cream in it" and shook her head disgustedly. I never brought her coffee again.

To lazy to put the cream and sugar in

I was so irritated lol

But you gave her the packets so she could do it herself, right?

ClamdilicusOP•

Yes, and I got her extra to keep for later.

So she's essentially complaining you didn't put in the cream and sugar in yourself even though you had no way of knowing if she would have wanted that sugar and cream.

How the hell would you know how she likes her coffee? Purely ungrateful.

So... I ordered coffee the other day and it came chocked full of sugar and cream. All I ordered was “iced coffee”. It was disgustingly sweet - like sweet tea. Thankfully they dumped it and replace it - but I can’t understand why people would add stuff if I didn’t ask! So yeah, I was asking myself, “Why the hell does the employee think he knows how I like my coffee?”

On the flip side of that: I used to work at dunkin donuts and we serve a ton of coffee and it was standard to ask cream or sugar whenever someone orders one. The number of times customers acted disgusted at us for asking if they wanted something they personally didn't prefer in their coffee was quite amazing. Uhh..lots of people use cream or sugar or both which is why we would ask.

Agree - that question is fair. If you don’t want to answer it, just specify “black”. It’s not that hard. I also wonder if some people just thought you should have their order memorized because they’d been there once before. I’ve seen that too.

The people that thought they were "regulars" but rarely came in were always the most entitled customers. The real regulars that came in most days or at least weekly, we actually did memorize their coffee (I still remember a lot of them over 7 years later) and they were the nicest customers we had.

Some people are just gonna be jerks. But to be rude to you for asking? I wouldn't last long in that job lol.

A co worker puts four sugars in his coffee, it's like a soda at that point right? another co worker has like 2DL of milk, another drinks it black, I drink it black.. I would be more grateful that OP didn't make a dumb assumption based on how they take it.

argh infuriating

I like my coffee sweet, I don't want it to taste like coffee. I use fake sugar and sugar free creamer though. I wouldn't expect anyone to know that, which is why I usually make my own coffee. But if someone does have to get it for me I request sugar free or fake sugar whatever they have, and I always say thank you. I don't understand the entitlement of some people.

ClamdilicusOP•

I brought her sugar and sweet and low.

Jen9095•

Exactly! Don’t assume. You can always add stuff, but you can’t take it out. If I’m not sure I bring them a few creams and sugar ... but probably not 4 sugars, so I guess that guy might be annoyed with me.

Don't get me started on iced coffee! I've asked for it with just milk. I've asked for it with no sugar. Always the damn sugar.

2
Jen9095•

Yeah, exactly! And so much sugar. I’m not sure why ice suddenly indicates sugar. I’ll do cream or milk, but no need for sugar.

Starbucks?? They do that shit to me

Unfortunately for whatever dang reason, Starbucks iced coffee comes sweetened by default.

If I had fixed it she probably would have bitched I did it wrong. You just can't win sometimes.

I mean, did she think she was in a hotel?

ClamdilicusOP•

She looked like more of a Motel 6 guest lol.

When I was in hospital because god knows why, a nurse randomly brought me chocolate milk as I was a little sad and the food was too little and meh for 16 years old me. I'm still in love with that woman and kept bringing me milk every night until I could leave. I just don't get why people are so strange to the feeling of gratitude :'D

I'm glad you had a good nurse :)

Jesus. What’s her deal? I usually take my coffee either black or with very very light sugar and cream. One time my fiancé brought me a cup that he doctored to his preferences because he just assumed I would like it the same way. It was so sweet I couldn’t drink it. I was still grateful, because it’s the thought that counts, but I would never assume how someone takes their coffee.

9
ClamdilicusOP•

There is no way I'd presume to fix someone's coffee. She didn't ever get any from me again though, so I had a little satisfaction lol.

4
herbaderb-baderb•

For sure. If she’s gonna be like that over a kind gesture she won’t get it again, haha. I even work at Starbucks and have been essentially trained in the art of getting people to tell me exactly what they want. Half the time when it’s just regular coffee I’ll still just be like, “you want room so you can fix it up yourself, right?” People get so serious about their coffee.

2
ClamdilicusOP•

I bet you've got some stories!!!!

2
herbaderb-baderb•

Oh yeah, people are so crazy about their coffee. I’m a pretty good barista in general, I like to make sure people get what they pay for, but God forbid it’s got a bit of foam or just a tiny too much ice. My favorite are the people who complain about the high prices but still buy it. Like, guys, I think our stuff is overpriced too, that’s why I don’t actually spend my money here.
