Want
What I’d give to be a ghost
I’d watch the world turn
The people mingle
The plants grow
The animals fly and swim and crawl
Because a life isn’t about watching
A life is being watched
By the other ghosts who gave it all up
Not a burden to bear
Oh, What I’d give to be a ghost
With no concept of time
And no obligations
A ghost cannot be lonely
For there are people and bugs and birds and dogs to observe
And when he must be alone
The ghost can hide in plain sight
But being a watcher can be a gift
But also a a curse.
He has more freedom
To do as he pleases
But, and who could believe,
The ghost regrets his choices
And wishes to live
To have a say
To feel needed
To be responsible
The spectre wants to feel the warmth again
Oh,
What he’d give to be alive
