How much is part time daycare?

I know this varies hugely based on region, but I can't get even the slightest idea of what putting my 2 year old in daycare for 2-3 days a week would cost. I know roughly what full time daycare around here costs, but I don't know anyone that does part time. Obviously I'm going to tour some places and get more info, but right now I'm trying to determine if this is something we can afford at all. I'm a SAHM and the only reason I'd be doing this is for some socialization type stuff for my daughter. If you do part time daycare, would you mind telling me how much you pay for it and whether you live in a rural, urban, or suburban area? Thanks!

It is so location-dependent. None of the daycares we look at even consider part-time, but our preschool will do drop-ins for 2yos at $90/day for part time kids, and 3 days a week is $1435/month.

Yup, that's what I'm seeing. My best friend has hers in daycare (he's a year older than mine, so that might account for some of it) full time and she pays $1200 a month.

Monthlu rates for 2 days/week is $970 and 3 days/week $1450. I am also a SAHM and we do cooperative preschool two days a week (1 drop off, 1 working). It is $110 a month. I like it because we both get socialization.

I had no idea co op preschool was a thing. That's definitely something to look into. Thanks!

California. Small coastal town/fairly rural.

My son goes 5x per week, but only until 1pm so that puts him at “half time”

I pay $800 a month. I provide all food, milk, diapers, and diaper cream.

The rate will go down a bit when he transfers from the infant room to the toddler room.

Wowwww... I pay $885 for an infant (1 year) for full time, and they provide all food, and cow's milk with meals.

Yeah... there aren’t very many options in my town. Only a couple daycares accept infants. The rest are income/need based centers that only take kids 18months+.

I was on the wait list for about 6 months before I got in to my sons daycare. Thankfully I love them And he loves going there.

Once he transfers to the toddler room they provide AM+PM snack so that’s something!

Yeah, that's good at least!

Daycares in my area don't consider part-timers because there's so much demand. You can bring LO part time but you'd have to pay for full time. I live in a urban-ish area, but kid friendly and it's expensive, probably $1500/mo for a good day care

Do you mind sharing details? I’m Boston area and struggling to find decent part time daycare that doesn’t cost my entire paycheck. What is the town and how old is your kiddo? Thanks so much!

Toddler age, it’s a suburb about 20 min out of Boston. I won’t share my providers personal info here for obvious reasons, but I will say we go through a company, cole Harrington and they will do income based prices.

Cool, thank you!

Metro-Detroit (in the boonies)- We’re looking at $170-200/ week for 3 days at a daycare facility. There are a few that are cheaper (like $130/week for 3 days) but they’re in the ghetto so we’re staying away from that.

The Learning Experience in central MA:

Full time toddler care:

8-12:30 = $1288

8-3=$1370

8-6=$1458

Three days a week toddler care:

8-12:30=$1159

8-3=$1233

8-6=$1312

For reference infant care (only one rate full time because cribs) = $1640

Edit: Of the only reason you’re doing it is socialization for her, can you try signing her up for kids programs instead? Swimming lessons? Kid music classes? Gymnastics?

Ouch! 3 day per week in central MA, $143 in preschool room. Will be $200 per week full time. Milk, snacks, breakfast and sleep mat included. Hours are 730 to 530, naeyc accredited. So it varies greatly even in the same region. I think toddler room was $250 per week full time.

Oh shit this was the monthly rate

Omg I’d die if I paid that weekly

TLE only gave me a sheet of monthly costs. The woman worked it out to a weekly cost that was on par with other places I saw but I can’t remember because that was back in January when I gave a deposit (we don’t start til September)

Phew! That makes more sense!

Probably doesn't help that much because I'm in the UK but I pay £806 for 4 days of nursery. I provide all nappies, wipes and cream and they provide all food and milk and sunscreen. Before he was 1, I had to provide his milk whether it was formula or breast milk.

Not many facilities here offer a part time rate because they pay teachers the same whether your child attends or not. Same reason you have to pay if you're out of town for a week.

It’s crazy dependent on region but I pay $120/day up to four days a week. As soon as I go full time, it would be slightly discounted but I’m unsure how much because I don’t use them full time.

Mine includes nappies, hats, sunscreen, bedding and all food through the day.

We pay $46/ day for our 6 month old to go to a licensed in-home daycare. We provide diapers. A center near us charges closer to $60/day for part time, but they provide diapers.

Edit: a lot of center daycares near us won’t even consider having an infant part time. We only found one. Even the in-home daycare requires 3 days/week minimum. Infant care is hard to find, so providers are able to be picky.

Germany, my kid goes to state-subsidized daycare 5 days a week for 6 hours a day, it's about 360 euros a month.

Have you looked into mothers day out/parents day out programs? We found an amazing program near our house that's significantly cheaper than a daycare center.
