What was I trying to say?

At the party last night with the music so loud
You turned to take a walk through the crowd
As you walked away I tried to say…

What was I going to say as you made your path into another room
What was I supposed to say to that clever comment you made so rude
As you walked away I tried to say something
But my eyes followed you speechless like you were a ship leaving me marooned

If I yelled I could save myself if I said anything you might turn back to me
My heart would fill with glee and a grin would hit my teeth
All would be forgiven but I stood there speechless
Thinking about those last three words left my smile teeth-less

Why couldn’t I speak, your words weren’t that shocking
I probably even deserved them they shouldn't be this rocking
To my psyche but alas the moment has passed
What was I trying to say?
