I'm trying to build my own little private campground and looking for suggestions!

Gear Questions

So, as the title states, I'm about to start constructing my own little campground back in the woods on a little private lake to fit 3-5 tents and possibly eventually build my own little permanent cabin. The location is in southeast Michigan and sits about 1,000 feet back in the woods from the garage which is the closest source of electricity. Which brings me to my first issue.

  • Running electricity roughly 1,000ft.

I'd like to have enough electricity to run about a hundred foot of string lights through the trees, keep 3-5 fans or space heaters running, and play a radio, being on the prepared side for expansion, but I don't know how to go about accomplishing that, I'll be able to bury the cable all the way back, but what type would I need?

  • Standard camp fire ring recommended clearance?

This is something I also want to be very cautious of, I just want a little firepit, like you would find at your modern campground, maybe approximately 3-4ft in diameter, nothing crazy. What would be the recommended amount of clearance I'll need to do with the branches and for what radius around the fire?

  • Best flooring for tent spaces?

Should I put just regular fill dirt around the areas where I plan to stage the tents? Or is there a better affordable option?

Also very open to any suggestions! To give a better idea of the location, my house is located on the corner of a rectangular lake. The lakes dimensions are about 1,000ft by 3,000ft if I had to guess. Two sides of the lake border the roads and are all houses, with me being on one end at the corner and the last house on the other end being at the opposite corner, and the other two sides being woods. My property extends down the short side that is wooded and then around the corner of the lake about another 1,500ft. I'm thinking the corner surrounded by woods is going to be the placement. My land then extends 70ft off of the water, with a farmer's field on the other side, so it's really just a strip of woods. I've got a wood chip golf cart path now extending back to the corner for moving the tents and whatever else back and forth and am ready to start clearing once I get some good ideas whether it be for mosquito management or cozy outdoor furniture! Thank you for all of your input!
