Why we all fail as musicians + My plan to succeed in the next 2 years.

So I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about hiphop and the music industry. All the money that I’ve spent and over 10 years trying to get my music noticed was basically time spent in vain. I’ve met dozens of musicians over the years and 99% of them were struggling. Over the past 2 years, I decided to involve myself in different things outside of music. The experience has taught me one thing, there’s almost no money in the music industry. All the money there is to be made is being controlled by very few people. I hate to sound like conspiracy theorist but I’m a strong believer that there are people who are heavily invested in to controlling what our kids listen to so they could socially engineer society. Music is powerful and the super rich know this. This is why all successful independent artist end up either getting boycotted or signed to a slave deal for millions of dollars. We seen this with xxxtentacion and various other artist. What should we do as failing independent artist? Should we keep trying to compete with the sharks and waste years of our lives, spend thousands of dollars for no return? Or should we take a different approach?

The answer to this question is simple DIFFERENT approach is what we need. Music is our passion and conventionally we all think we need to do what every artist who became successful has done. They tell us that FAME and superstardom is the only approach you should take when it comes to music. 10 years later, thousands spent, no fame or superstardom. Let’s face it. No one gives a flying fuck about any of our music. But hey, it doesn’t mean they don’t give a fuck about music. Music is needed and it is essential to our lives. Do you want people to hear your music? If so, how badly? How far are you willing to go? It’s 2018 guys, let’s stop being dumb. There are ways that you can literally trick people in to listening to your music. Create video series online, start a podcast, open a club, open a barbershop or a hiphop clothing store! Promote your music to your customers. For example, In a barbershop while they’re getting a hair cut you can play your music. Now this goes back to what I said about music is essential to our lives. People need music while they’re getting a hair cut or when they’re partying in the club. You can play your music as a intro theme song before your podcasts! That’s just entry level shit though. Let’s get a little more creative, shall we? Ok maybe you do not want to step out of the music field because it’s your passion.

Let’s talk about concert and club event promotion shall we? Not only can you make a killing, you’re getting involved with what you love. If being famous and being a superstar is the only thing that motivates you wouldn’t it be cool to be able to meet these famous superstars a couple times per week?

Let’s dig in to this a little bit. First you contact the artists’ management team and you ask if they would be available to host an event or do a concert. Let’s say they would charge you $5k (most of the time the price is negotiable). YOU GOTTA negotiate. You then contact multiple venues and tell them you can get so and so for a real good price. Then venue says how much? You tell them $7k. You have to convince the venue that it will be a sell out event. Then just like that, you close the deal and you pocket $2000. Do this 4 times a week and you will be making $8000 per week. That’s potentially $32000 month depending on how hard you hustle. You didn’t spend none of your own cash. 100% profit unless you decide to spend some of the money on marketing and various other areas.

Ask the artist to do an interview. Often times they say yes because you paid them so they’re happy usually and they’re more likely to do a favour at this point. Now you not only have yourself a booking agency but also a media company like vladtv.com where you can promote your music before every interview and actually tell the artist to shout you out. After months of dropping 4 interviews every week you’d surely build a fan base. Not to mention since it’s your event you can play your music at every venue and make connections with every DJ in your region. The Djs would start playing your songs everywhere they go if they like it.

We need to stop focusing on Fame and superstardom. A music video is cool but it shouldn’t be your main focus. Much less a body of work such as an album or a single for that matter. By posting your music and promoting your link or video you are essentially BEGGING people to listen to your music. And quite frankly these people do not give a fuck. They do not need your help to discover music. You are not Spotify or Apple Music! When people look for random artist they usually go to SoundCloud. SoundCloud listeners don’t pay for shit! That’s why the company almost went bankrupt! You need to create a platform of some sort where you can draw an audience and make them familiar with your music. You need an audience by any means.

I don’t mind contributing to this community for free. As I grow, we will all grow. Once a month I’ll be posting some ground breaking shit. Just because.

Anyways, something to think about!

Let’s get it.
