The smart move for Boogie
Beyond the obvious ring-chasing take, it was a really smart move for Boogie for these reasons:
- No-one was willing to give Boogie serious money, so he needs to go somewhere and prove himself before warranting another big paycheck. Not many places with a bigger profile than the Bay at the moment.
- He needs to go a franchise where there is no pressure to put up big numbers, play big minutes or rush him back. Come back in December / January and maybe only play 20 minutes a night during the season. Have a couple of statement games in the playoffs and contribute to a championship.
- Kill two birds with one stone by existing in a 'culture-based' franchise when your reputation in this aspect is poor. Consumer confidence resumed, go after a big contract in the bumper 2019 free agency.
Sure, he could have swung for the fences and joined LeBron in LA, but the pressure would have been on him to put up numbers and help carry the team. If the team crashes and burns, he'll be the Kevin Love of it all and the narrative will be that he's done as an elite NBA player.
Now all he has to do is take all the time he needs to rehab, work his game back in as slowly as he needs, take advantage of being the 4th option on offense and bare no responsibility if things go wrong.
Set up-screens at the elbow and make great passes. Dude wont even need to move. He gets a year in the shop window with no responsibilities apart from proving he can stay on a basketball court.
