[Spoiler] The last dungeon in Ys VIII is an absolute nightmare in handheld
Let me just start with, the last dungeon in Ys VIII by itself is already a few layers of bullshit. The entire dungeon is in the dark, so you have to have one slot for the light. Enemies are numerous, WAY overpowered, and they only picked the cheapest enemies to be here. No check points anywhere, afaict. The layout also focused heavily on platforming of all thing, amd the game was not designed for this kind of manuvere - doesn't help that, again, everything is in complete darkness. This part of the game doesn't feel challenging, it just feel cheap and stretched out like an endurance test to your sanity.
Anyway, this part of the game alone is enough to upset me, but playing it in handheld is just horrendous.
Because of the amount of enemies and platform, the framerate suffered and stuttered a lot, not only causing an already frustrating experience more frustration, it also hinders with the platforming, since you'd constantly miss. The level design is also ruthless so if you miss a jump, well, plenty of backtracking to try a second attempt. The resolution suffered significantly as well. The game dynamic resolution is very jarring, going from 720p to like 240p almost instantly and returning to 720p, again, creating a very jerky experience. This doesn't actually affect gameplay, but it's really distracting to see such a huge drop in quality so suddenly so often.
I'd highly recommend doing this part of the game exclusively in docked.
