Looking for Drone-retrieval advice
I've owned my first drone (that I got as a birthday gift) for less than 4 days and I've already lost it to the wind (which blew it into the forest in my back yard).
The good news: I was able to locate it relatively quickly.
The bad news: It is stuck in a really tall tree. This tree has no low-hanging branches so climbing is not a possibility for mere mortals. All day I've tried to get a rope over the branch that it is closest to the drone so that way I could shake it down. However, the branches are too high to throw a rock-with-rope. We also tried shooting an arrow-with-fishing-line (which we would then attach parachute cable on the end, and feed the line until the parachute cable is on both sides of the branch where we would then tug on the parachute cable), which was working at first but the fishing line broke because there is so much crap in the way (it is a heavily wooded area). Our backyard is heavily wooded, but also within city limits so it isn't technically legal to fire a rifle at the tree branch.
This leaves us with two feasible options as far as I can see:
-
Chop the tree down ourselves
-
Call a guy that knows my dad and get him to climb up and retrieve it (he's an arborist; he's really good at climbing trees)
Which brings me to
The worst news: My family and I are going to be out of town for a week... and we leave tomorrow morning... The soonest the arborist can help us is Saturday (today is Monday), meaning the drone will have to remain in the tree for a week. I believe it is also supposed to rain in a few days, which I imagine will destroy the circuitry. Tomorrow morning we leave at 8 am, and my dad claims it takes hours to chop a tree down (I'm a little skeptical, but our chainsaws are kind of shit) - and there is also the chance that the drone gets crushed in the process of the tree falling.
I guess, this makes my main question: Can a drone survive days stuck in a tree if it rains? How bad will the damage be? Would it be repairable either by my amateur soldering skills or by taking it to a professional?
