At what point do you say "you're done!" ?

I just got Akhos, my final rare blade. At 387 hours in, and 2 full playthroughs, i am closing in on 100%. I might get there by this weekend. I'm not sure exactly what that will mean. For me, i think it means all rare blades, all at rank S or better, all quests and challenge stages complete, and all heart to hearts viewed, all unique bosses defeated, all poppi upgrades in place,

But there always seems to be more boxes to tick. S+ trust for every blade? Discovering every favorite item? Getting all characters weapon mastery at 5 with every weapon? Doing evry blade's blade combo and lvl IV special once? Getting every item? Hitting the gold cap? Maxing every amount of item held in the game? Playing through all the way again in japanese?

What do some of you consider 100%? And how many hours did it take you?

It has been a wild ride, and xenoblade 2 is carving out a place as one of my all time most played games, after skyrim. Those of you who have tried to 100% a game may be familiar with the sense that the finality and closure remains elusive, even as you grt closer and closer to the goal.

Part of me badly wants to be done. There are other games i want to play. And with each batch of vess's dumplings i make, the more i become aware of what a slog it all is. And yet i don't want it to end. Part of me longs for more blades, bigger and badder bosses, and new continents to exlplore. I'm so glad they're releasing the expansion in september. Sometimes i wish they would just keep expanding and patching and releasing new features for years.

Some things i've done in the course of pursuing my goal that i've done for no other game:

  • Bought a $40 digital soundtrack solely so that i can listen to the game music in my car.

  • Watched a 53 minute youtube video on sexualization in XC2 (they made some good points, but in my view overlooked the purpose behind some of the sexualization)

  • watched a 24 part stream by a lead voice actress of the game

  • created a reddit account and become a regular on this site

  • gotten to this point with many aspects if the game mechanics still unclear. What is the difference between agility and dexterity? What exactly do the percentages on the left during chain attacks mean? What is the big fuss about the level IV pandoria special "eye of shining justice?" What is the point of doing a shielding move on combat? What role does luck play in combat?

Anyway, to sum up XC2 and what i thought it all means:

  1. humans suck and global warming is the challenge that will make or break our species.
  2. Boobs = power.
  3. Holding on to a dream against all odds is hard, but knowing when to let go of that dream is even harder, and is more important. That's what seperates heroes from villains.
