Anet A8 mainboard upgrade

Been running my new Prusa Mk2s for a while and and would like to revive my old Anet A8 that I started with, only problem is that the main board appears to be completely dead. I'm taking this as a chance to upgrade to something a bit better since the Anet boards aren't exactly known for their quality or reliability.

What would be a good upgrade? I heard a RAMPS 1.4 setup would work fine since Prusa style printers don't need complex 32 bit boards, but I've also heard that the RAMPS setup is basically the worst electronics combo there is so would that work or do I need to look at something a bit more modern and less outdated?
