What are the non-rechargeable household battery recycling/disposal options in NZ?

I know that it's 'possible' to dispose of Alkaline/ZincCarbon/etc batteries in the common household trash but are there any recycling options for these in New Zealand?

Are any in Hamilton?

For that matter, what about old NiMH cells that no longer hold any charge? Are they better or worse ending up in landfill?
