Girls are so confusing

Im currently in a situation where me and this one girl are really close. We've known each other for about 6 years now and well I've always liked her on and off but i never really accepted those feelings until this year. I told her I liked her a couple of months back and decided to ask her out because well peer pressure. She didnt say no or yes to the question of going out with and we both just created space for a solid 5-6 months. Now we're talking again and we got really close to the point where we started kissing and other stuff. I asked her if we could date again and she said she couldnt because "she would ruin it" or "I wouldnt be able to handle it". Basically shes comparing me to her previous boyfriends that have all treated her wrong or acted really petty and possessive. What should I do in this situation? Should I just give up? I really want to date her and be with her but shes just comparing me to all her previous boyfriends and saying i would end up being the same. Idk what to do
