Do I... do I eat the certificate when I'm done with the sandwich? You know, to maintain provenance?

MegaSeedsInYourBum•

Absolutely not! You file it away alphabetically and by date in your dedicated filing cabinet and bring it out whenever anyone asks you if you've had that meal before.

I Like this quote I dislike this quote

“I bought a doughnut and they gave me a receipt for the doughtnut... I don't need a receipt for the doughnut. I give you money and you give me the doughnut, end of transaction. We don't need to bring ink and paper into this. I can't imagine a scenario that I would have to prove that I bought a doughnut. To some skeptical friend, 'Don't even act like I didn't get that doughnut, I've got the documentation right here... It's in my file at home. ...Under "D".'”

Mitch Hedberg

Sounds like someone who has never needed an alibi.

I know right?! Some time in high school I started to keep my receipts so I would have an alibi, all my friends said I was neurotic and paranoid but what do they know!!! lmao

Don't forget to file the sandwich there as well once you're done with it in a couple days.

You know.

I wonder in Vietnam, they argue how Americans eat their Baloney Sandwiches.

"Does that sandwich use mayonaise!? It LOOKS LIKE MIRACLE WHIP. IF IT WAS /AUTHENTIC/ IT'D USE MAYONAISE. That's also BROWN MUSTARD YOU RETARD, REGULAR OR IT ISN'T A TRUE BALONEY SANDWICH!"

37

No, no they don't care what anyone else eats. They are to busy working their asses off every day to care.

If I was going to be a dick about banh mi it would be about the bread.

14

I'm in Saigon i have had some terrible bread banh mi

8
RassimoFlom•

I would be even more of a dick about it if I wa sin Saigon.

6

It's only been certain situations that I wouldn't expect the best. Late night bus station, random entertainment venue. If I go somewhere expecting a banh mi, the bread will normally be at least respectable. Pate isn't on every kind. They sell hot dog banh mi at children's parks. I want to know that person's background now.

I will go into ho chi minh tomorrow and tell all the stalls they are doing it wrong

evanthegirl•

Gonna go to my favorite Vietnamese bakery today and tell them to shut it down!

Nixflyn•

My fist generation immigrant Vietnamese coworkers will go to little Saigon and bring back banh mi for the team and now I need to tell them that they're not getting banh mi but really an Americanized fake.

2

Truthfully, I don't even really like pate. The amount of different types of banh mi out here is like any sandwiches in any country. To say it must consist of certain things is fucking stupid. A meatball sub isn't a sandwich it's an Italian dish on bread.

Nixflyn•

I actually love pate and often get the pate banh mi (which is majority pate, but I totally get not liking it), but sometimes I even get spam and eggs banh mi. Oh wait, I'm sorry, a Hawaiian long sandwich.

4

Egg banh mi is huge out here as well. And cheap. 28-34 cents.

Food and drink are communist and any attempt to own the rights to a food or drink is foolish. First it was private corporations stealing Mezcal sales from farmers who have been growing, harvesting, and smoking agave for centuries. Now it's big shot fuckers acting like you need your fucking sandwich certified.

No lie, I gatekeep tacos and burritos

5
cflatjazz•

But theres like one rule for each of those, right?

"Must be folded in a small tortilla"

"Must be wrapped in a large tortilla"

16
Raibean•

I’ll make exceptions for tacos if is a flatbread from another culture (naan, fry bread, etc) but yeah just the one.

5
MaybeImTheNanny•

I gatekeep hummus. It’s fine, we all have lines.

3
Nixflyn•

Totally with you on hard tacos. You may not call those tacos without the hard qualifier.

2
Wobblie•

Some things are just right and true, though.

1
Osric250•

Either way they're still just a sandwich.

Raibean•

Tortillas are a utensil. Fight me.

EasyReaderOP•

Tacos are open faced dumplings.
