Welcome to ITRP!
Welcome to ITRP!
Iron Throne Roleplay (ITRP) is a community-driven roleplaying/simulation game based in the universe of George R.R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. Currently we are in our sixth edition of our game after five successful wrap ups from our first run (2014-2015), our second run (2015-2016) our third run (2016), our fourth run (2016-2017), and our most recent fifth run (2017-2018). ITRP is one of the most active and most recognized RP games in the RP reddit community and has a large host of players who all work to uphold our community standards in respect, fair-play, and enjoyability, which are outlined in our rules and regulations.
ITRP is a community-driven game with the goal to become and uphold the highest quality role-playing experience set in the ASOIAF universe on Reddit and to become a place where new and old fans of the series alike, hardcore RPers, fresh faces and anything in between, can come together to write about a world they love. We aim to create an environment in which our players can enjoy the writing process and improve their writing skills, learn more about the universe and make some friends discussing it, becoming a member of our close-knit community in the process.
The primary function of ITRP is to tell a compelling stories where all of our players and characters can have a meaningful and impactful effect on the game-world. We want our players to be filled with pride as villains rise and heroes fall as we play the Game of Thrones in a game where there is no such thing as ‘minor characters’, but a place where each and every character can have a major impact on the direction of the story in accordance to their author’s will. However life is a fragile thing, and taking chances is not without consequence. With this in mind, there is a distinct possibility that your characters could die during the course of the game, so being able to separate yourselves from attachment is essential.
Presently you can find our in-game play on /r/IronThroneRP and our community/character creation/meta subbreddit over at /r/ITRPCommunity!
The Story
Aegon’s Conquest failed. His sisters and their dragons were killed. While the east was bathed in dragonflame, Aegon had wasted too many resources, losing a dragon in the process, attempting to grasp too much power too quickly, and when the Great Alliance between Houses Gardener and Lannister met Aegon’s army on the Field of Valor, Aegon lost another sister and her dragon, and was forced to flee in disgrace. As his armies collapsed and rebellion from his vassals was imminent, Aegon announced that he would fly his dragon to Valyria, and see what he could find to establish his kingdom anew. A year from the day he set foot on the shores of Westeros, he mounted a wounded Balerion and flew off into the sky, never to be seen again. Once again, Westeros saw a momentary peace.
That peace would not last, however. Though Aegon Targaryen’s invasion was a failure, the ensuing power vacuum left Westeros in a state of chaos and disarray. With the Trident ripe for the picking, and a worrying power struggle beginning to form in Dorne, and a Kingless Iron Islands, it did not take long for Westeros to, once more, fall into war.
Two-hundred and ninety-eight years. Countless wars, countless treaties, countless plagues, countless deaths -- all caused by one man and his sisters, say the people. Near three-hundred years later we find the realm, once more, in chaos. The North is embroiled in a nasty civil war between the exiled trueborn heir of King Torrhen X Stark, the Black Wolf, and the legitimized bastard of King Torrhen X Stark, the White Wolf and Lord of Winterfell. To the south, the Kingdom of the Trident is teetering on the edge of collapse as the only remaining member of House Fletcher, a house spawned by a peasant rebellion after Aegon fled and the realms great powers descended on the Trident, is an eight year old girl, Mia Fletcher, betrothed to the heir to House Darry.
The High Septon has called a council to determine who would go on to lead the Trident to avoid another bloody war. Would it be House Darry through marriage? House Bracken through a weak, yet still, blood claim? House Mallister through strength, as the Lord Mallister served as the late King Tristifer’s right hand man? House Frey through wealth, as House Fletcher had a sizeable unpaid debt to them? Or House Tully through honour, alliances, and a powerful marriage with House Lannister? Or perhaps a foreign power? The Council of Harrenhal and its many attendees will determine who will lead the Trident into the future. Or will it? Many powers seek to destabilize the Trident; Durrandon to maintain his hold on the Kingdom of the Dusklands and the Kingdom of the Claw, Gardener to expand his realm, and Arryn to ensure the safety of his realm and lay claim to the Trident.
To the west, the Ironborn have lost their King, Cotter Goodbrother. A Kingsmoot has been called, with four well known houses putting their name forth. House Goodbrother, the younger brother of the old King Cotter who slew Prince Brandon Stark before his nephew, the heir Torgon Goodbrother, was slain by the White Wolf himself. House Greyjoy, the Lord Reaver who paid the iron price for Red Rain, House Reyne’s ancestral sword, and reaved the Westerlands during the War of the Trident. House Drumm, the Lord Reaver who razed Oldtown and named himself King of the Mander before being driven out after the War of the Trident. And House Harlaw, the Lord Reaver is especially infamous, for it was their intense raiding of the Riverlands, and the subsequent slaughtering of King Tristifer’s two sons, that caused the War of the Trident to break out. Lord Harlaw pillaged the entirety of the Western RIverlands, and their sigil is now a symbol of horror for the people of the Red Fork, used by mothers to send them to bed before the White Reaper comes for them.
In the south, Dorne is divided into three; The Kingdom of the Torrentine, headed by House Dayne of Starfall, The Kingdom of the Greenbelt, headed by House Yronwood, and the Princedom of Dorne, ruled by Martell in Sunspear, the shattered remains of the former nation. There have been nearly three hundred years of separation, but can one rise above the others? Will Dorne be whole again?
Only you, the player, can determine what happens next. Will the Ironborn kneel to a single Lord Reaver? Will the Trident see peace and stability?
Come help sway the tides of war and peace, through trade, war, diplomacy, intrigue, there are a multitude of ways even the smallest character can change the flow of ITRP. Come play the Great Game.
