Things to do before Wii shop closes?
I bought a second hand Wii-U (after buying a switch) to play Zelda games on due to its back-compatibility. According to my understanding, Skyward Sword is the only Wii title that I need to get before the Wii shop closes, is that right? How do I get the other virtual console titles?

The wii shop is already closed. You cannot buy currency. If the previous owner bought something you can download it again before it is lost forever; but you will not be able to get more game from the wii shop channel.
However, you have a wiiu; and there is no sign of the eshop closing soon, so yeah; you can get Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, WindWaker, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Minish Cap, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, A Link to the Past, The Adventure of Link & The Legend Of Zelda fro that service.
Just know; you will NEED a wiimote plus or a regular wiimote with the wiimotion Plus accessory and a Nunchuck to play Skyward Sword. All of the others can be played with just the gamepad.
The problem with playong Wii games on the Wii U is that the rezolution is somehow worse than on the Wii. It's the case with disk games at least, not sure about digital downloads.
Wait you can get the Minish cap on the WiiU but not the 3DS?! Why Nintendo???? I don’t wanna buy a WiiU for one game :(
You can get it in the 3DS if you happen to find a 3DS that was part of the ambassador program. That's the only time they released the game for the system.
Other than that, yeah, you are stuck with buying a wiiU and download the game, or a GBA/DS/Gamecube with the GB adapter and get the cartridge.
The 3DS/wiiU combo is great fo the Zelda Franchise; the only game you'll be missing is Four Sword Adventures for the gamecube; it's the only one that hasn't got any type of re-release; but all of the other games in the franchise can be played in either the 3DS or the wiiU.
