Dude, you're the perfect representation of this subreddit's spirit! Keep on rocking!

The elevation change is getting to me, in that the path I've got is mostly downhill going out (though there's an uphill portion before the halfway, but not enough of one), and mostly uphill coming in (aside from the brief downhill period after the halfway). Such that I hit my five minute cooldown a hundred or so feet before my starting point.

I hit my five minute cooldown a hundred or so feet before my starting point.

That's a pretty consistent pace for someone starting out.

Sounds like you're doing it right, brother.

Keep it movin'!

Are you a chemistry major? I think you were a student of mine last year lol.

Chemistry minor, math major with a secondary education focus. I need to get those last 2 credits for the minor.

You are an absolute beast dude. I'd focus mostly on breathing and trying to keep a steady pace while running/jogging. Keep your shoulders back to help keep your lungs as open as possible. I'm sure you've got a good handle on these things already, but just get to a point where you're not thinking about it all, then you can worry about other stuff!

I believe it's jogging or yogging. It might be a soft "J."

Good bot.

Congratulations! I’m tackling W5D3 in about 6 hours. I hope to join you in victory! Enjoy every minute of it...you’ve earned it!

How did it go?

5
bpr3661•

I made it! Thanks for asking! Eight minutes into the run portion I thought I’d never hit the 20 minute mark. I kept reminding myself of all the others who powered through and I fought my way to the end. I’m finding it’s just as much a mental challenge as it is physical. Hard to believe I’ve only four weeks left. I might be a runner after all!

AlcoholicEmbryoWeek 5•

Congratulations! I just finished week 3 so I'll keep your words in mind when I'm out there! You rock 😁

Yay!!! W5D3 ain’t got nothing on you!!

Was it better than you thought it would be? Worse? Meh? I’ll be running it Friday.

At a certain point I just sort of decided to keep going (though I didn't keep going after the end of the twenty minutes, I'm not quite that dedicated yet), but it really wasn't as bad as I feared. I hit my stride, and aside from getting a pretty dry mouth my the end of it, it wasn't bad.

Do you have a hydration source while running? I used to never have one. I ran on base and they had these 10 gallon water jugs with those cone shaped cups scattered around they were always so cold. Almost frozen, it was epic on summer runs in southern humidity. After moving home I realized how much I utilized them. I bought a 12oz hand bottle. It has a strap so I don't actually have to hold it. Plus it has a holder for my Huma Gels which is cool. I swear, that thing saved my life during the NYC Half. I am slow, and actually missed a water station at the 10k mark. If it wasn't for that little bottle filled with my electrolyte solution I would have been ded. My meds are the main cause for the cotton mouth but running really makes it noticeable. Just a little experience comment. Hope you continue to kick ass as well as you have been. I swear, you really are the only reason I open reddit lately.

You want to follow me on Strava PM me. I'll trow you some extremely well deserved kudos. Keep up the epic transformation brother!!!

I used to run with water in a backpack, but stopped when I switch from my iPad to the smartphone. I’m thinking of trying chewing gum to help salivate.

redzrain•

If you chew gum watch you don't get heartburn. I used to chew gum while working out and the heartburn coupled with a high heart rate would make me close to vomiting. My PT told me to stop chewing gum and it helped a heap.

I chew gum when I run and I feel like it really helps with the dry mouth.

BTW Great job at getting out there and getting it done! You're a true inspiration to many! Keep the posts coming!

No, you may not be the fastest, but you are the coolest and you’re definitely my hero.

20 minutes! Great job!! You went from the couch to 20 minutes of running! You've done the hard part! You're cruising now!

Im 220lb and I feel the weight is working against me big time. Imagine how much your aerobic system has improved to carry your weight through these workouts. Im sure your blood results have improved dramatically.

13
nobodezOPDONE!•

Damn, I WISH I was only 220.

Last summer I was 350, so its entirely possible!

That's freaking amazing! Nice work!

idontlikeflamingos•

You'll get there brother, just keep at it. The change is noticeable from your first few pics and the speed will come with time. If you go back now and do a W2 or W3 run you'll go much, much faster, so in a few weeks this one will be a piece of cake too.

irenemiauDONE!•

I'm legitimately proud of how far you've come. Congratulations on hitting this milestone!
