I'm a super budget collector. So my recent obsession is picking up extremely common (and cheap), fun to play Japanese famicom games. This is my collection so far.

Bomber man 2 is way cheaper in Japan. I recommend it if you can also snag a four player adapter.
heck yeah! What an awesome recommendation! I totally missed adding it to my list!
They look like fucking fresh out of the box x_O, also the controller, nice.
Right? They really are in great condition. Would you believe the games were around $1-$2 each, plus shipping?
Going to Japan in about a month. Any cheap I Japan only games you recommend? I’m thinking of getting Holy Diver.
I wouldn't call Holy Diver cheap. Expect to pay $50 or more for a loose cart. That is, if you can find it at all. It's not like every single shop is going to have it. Still way below eBay prices of course, so it comes down to being in the right place at the right time.
Other Famicom / Super Famicom exclusives that you may want to look for:
Yoshi's Cookie is a lot of fun. If you can get over the awful graphics (the graphics in the SNES version kinda look like they let one of the programmers draw them).

Oh yeah, he's a trooper. It's my original SNES from like... 1991. It's been through a lot.
So, after I grew up a bit and got into my 20s, I found a japanese copy of Zelda for super cheap at a game store somewhere, and started looking into the way games were region locked for the US. I wanted to file out the tabs for a much cleaner look than just using a converter, so I took apart the console to get that piece filed down- only to find out the only thing holding the plastic screw posts together, after a childhood of owning this console and being SUPER rough with it, was the blue thread sealant around each screw. So when i took it apart, each screw post literally fell apart in my hands. Oops. Couldn't put it back together, so i just decided to leave it like it was. I could pick up a replacement case or get a nonfunctioning, good-condition model and swap the cases... but nah, it's got its charms. The back half of it is missing plastic because of a move- literally a dictionary fell on it and it shattered the back corner of the SNES, but still the SNES is fine. What's NOT fine is the controller port connector. The ribbon cable is connected and working- FOR NOW, but I need to get a new one at some point. During another move, the controller ports got pulled out and one of the pins at the end of the ribbon cable got bent out of shape, and the controllers didn't operate properly. I somehow managed to get it working, but it's definitely a temporary fix.
So yeah. He's been through a lot, but it's still a trooper, and it still works fine.
Also shoutouts to my glorious Apple television. https://i.imgur.com/5ciifTz.jpg
I just knew there'd be rich history behind it I'm so glad I asked, give that SNES a purple heart!
it's certainly had a life! haha!
I was amazed a few weeks ago to pick a mint never played japanese copy of panzer dragoon saga for the saturn, shipped to the UK for...
...£22...
yeah dude! Congrats!
Boilerplate post about how you should start learning Japanese, get more into import gaming, and join me on my downward spiral into playing games that nobody's ever heard of ;3
ahh i'm a baby beginner when learning japanese, i still haven't sat down and learned my hiragana and katakana yet, that's one of the things these games were supposed to do for me in the first place!
I've given myself til my birthday (august 24th) to memorize Hiragana and katakana, so i'm working as hard as my poor ADD-riddled brain can work at it!
Puyo puyo and Puyo puyo 2 remix, yoshi's cookie, mario's super picross, Mario all stars, street fighter 2, and Turtles in time. I cheated a bit with Turtles, I picked it up a long time ago at a convention for a couple of bucks, before it shot up in price.
How long ago 👀
