Opening a new restaurant as a manager after 10 years serving

Short

I’d been a manager through my 20’s when I didn’t know any better, then served at high end places through my 30’s thinking management was for suckers. I’ve served celebrities and gas station attendants. I’ve worked shitholes to 5 Star. I was recently lured back to the dark side, at my own peril.

The $$ was just enough that I couldn’t say no, plus my new GM is a longtime coworker who’s been through the shit with me, but we open in a week and I spend all my time trying to convince new servers this is the best place in town, and they will make so much $$$, when in reality the owner is cheap and shady, the hotel we are in thinks they own us (we are totally independent of the hotel). Our POS is optimized for quick serve and we are upscale casual, wasting hours of my day trying to get the programmers (on European business hours,I’m in USA) to fix menu, prep check printing, reporting, and we are short 2 managers.

My old job is downtown fine dining where I served banquets for $300/night with no stress, and an open invitation to return. My buddy is my current GM and he’s in over his head already so I’d totally fuck him if I left.

No point to this other than FML
