The In-Between

If you look, you'll find me
I'm there
Between the darkness of night and first light
Of sunrise
Where the air is cool and still
And dew drops cling to blades of grass like babes to their mothers
Before the earth sighs at the birth of a new day
But after she opens her eyes, ready and waiting
I am there
Frozen in anticipation
Swimming laps in silent lakes of glass
Riding the lazy breeze through resting trees, and the birds whose songs sit dormant
Find me
My fingertips search time and space for you, reaching
I might brush past you, like the grass against your ankle
I may never see you
Two shooting stars, galaxies apart
But I feel you
In my stillness there is chaos
Confined, contained
There I find you
A hurricane in a glass bottle
The electric current surging through my heart and the silence between beats
It's your love that beckons the new day
It calls the earth to exhale, relieved
Your voice like the rich and fertile soil, it nourishes me
I am growing in your embrace
Blooming
But
Without you, here I am
If you look, you'll find me
Somewhere in between, searching for you
