Open letter to parents posting and lurking here

DISCUSSION

Hello! Welcome to r/childfree. Similar how I sometimes dabble in parenting subs (one, to get another perspective, two, it ends up reaffirming my stance every time! haha), I am glad you are here, learning and reading different perspectives. It is great that you want an understanding of us and to learn how to be a better parent and to raise a child who respects everyones decisions.

But this sub is for childfree people. Yes, we (well some of us, I know I am happy for people who are happy) are happy that you are happy giving birth to children, but we do not want to see a post saying "I LOVE MY KIDS SO MUCH but me and my 5 CHILDREN respect your choice!! BTW I love my kids but I see why you are childfree! Did I mention I love my kids???!?11!!". The top post of ALL TIME on this sub is similar. Shouldn't the top post of all time on a childfree subreddit be about a childfree person?? not a mom?

We do not need your praise or validation. We know we are making the right choice. We do not need to hear "As a mom/dad.... I am so happy for you!!". We are not obligated to teach you how to be respectful of others choices. It is fine if you want to read through these posts and educate yourself on how to not bingo / harass childfree people. It is fine if you comment once and awhile. But this is not the place to have a comment thread about your favorite diapers or nursery designs for your kids (yes, I have seen that once on this sub.) or mention how excited you are for your kids.

Recent polls have shown that only 60% of this sub is childfree. Some people were bothered by this. I wasn't per say. I am personally glad that parents and fencesitters are allowed to browse, lurk, and interact with our community. (Although I can only speak for myself on that matter), but I am bothered by the increase of posts and comments by moms and dads that are "validating" our choice. It comes across as sanctimonious.

Please just be understanding of where I come from and where the people who are frustrated with this recent trend of posts and comments from parents are coming. If you want to talk about your children, post on a parenting subreddit. If you want to support childfree people, show don't tell. Support your IRL childfree friends, don't bingo, call out parents who bingo others.

Happy lurking to parents, and happy posting to childfree / fencesitters leaning heavily childfree folks.

Feel free to comment and discuss if you don't agree with this post. I am open to having my feelings towards the matter changed.

Edit - I am sorry that some people are getting downvotes into oblivion, but dm-ing me and recommenting won’t change that. Also, take my words at face value. I didn’t say ban parents or fence sitters. I said parents and fence sitters just need to keep aware that this is a subreddit for childfree people. Is it so insane to think that. Parents wouldn’t want us posting on their subreddits seeking validation and discussing childfree life style. Which is understandable.

Gosh dang reddit has a way.
