Isn’t a convict lease Just another word for, slavery!? And then they got the nerve To hand me a Bible... Cant you see. The system is made to desensitize me And create a sense of distance Far beyond the actual distance. You, curse me for not being there. You, say i don’t care You, lost all faith in me And became as cold as the steel door in front of me. But as America, i’ll gain my Independence However, the Documentation clearly wasn’t signed with “we” in mind And my Emancipation Proclamation Isn’t enough to be recognized. So i guess, I ain’t equal to who i use to be. And you, Will never look at me the same. As if, i hadn’t suffered enough You want to: String my throat, suppress my vote Say, I’m not working with a felon (Ni****)!
The segregation is real. Riots break out in my heart I feel the spirit of Prosser, Vesey, and Turner Clashing like T. Washington and DuBois Against my Randolphs and King Jrs. Perhaps, i should get my Marcus Garvey on Or my, By any means necessary Knowing I’m going out like Malcolm X Or suicide by cop. For i am the atavism of Frederick Douglass Chanting the slogan of Carmichael The Manifestation of the whole B.P.P. and B.L.A. So i need me, An Assata Shakur! But with the hope of Obama And ambition of Jay-Z and Diddy I’ll end up like Michael Jordan or Oprah Winfrey To ensure my kids don’t repeat History, Like me...”
