Recommendation for birth hospital/OBgyn practice?

My family and I are moving to your fine city soon, and we just found out she is pregnant with twins (we knew she was pregnant, but the twins were quite a surprise). Knowing that this is a higher risk pregnancy, we want to make sure we are set up with a good OBgyn/hospital from the get-go. Does anyone have recommendations for a good birthing hospital with a good NICU? Hopefully we won’t need the NICU, but we want to be sure it’s there for our own piece of mind.

If it helps, we will be staying in the Loveland area in the short term, but are hoping to settle down closer to the city in the long term.

My wife used For Women for our high-risk pregnancies. We hold them in the highest regard. They're all so caring and knowledgeable.

Good Samaritan Hospital has the most respected NICU in the area, but I'm sure Bethesda North is just as good, since they're both TriHealth hospitals.

We worked with For Women and delivered at Good Samaritan. Excellent all around.

I hated for women. Loved good Sam though!

What did you hate about them?

There’s too many doctors in the practice in my Opinion and I only liked to see 1-2 of them and would dread seeing any others (but they make you see them all). One of them literally joked about me having a brain tumor when I was pregnant and having concerns about awful migraines. They were rude and dismissive and always rushing you out of the door; like they never sat done during appointments and listened to what you were saying. They just stood and had the door open within five minutes. They also make you prepay for delivery so you’re paying hundreds of dollars a month upfront vs then billing insurance and you paying Bills as you go. This rubbed me the wrong way because I hit my deductible outside of their practice and was still paying them monthly. Once I switched it really also showed me how comfortable I should have felt seeing my doctor during a pregnancy.

Go to either UC in Clifton or Good Sam. Both have the best NICUs in the area. Plus both are close to Children’s Hospital, which also will give you peace of mind. I went to UC and my son had a heart murmur when he was born. Someone from Children’s actually came to the hospital to check him out since it’s literally a 3 minute walk.

NICUs at both UC and Good Sam are in fact staffed by doctors from Children’s (my spouse, a children’s resident, did NICU rotations there)

Yeah I like the idea of being so close to Children’s.

Good Sam’s has the best NICU. That being said, I delivered at Bethesda North with Doctor Bowen of the Bowen Center. I can not recommend them enough! The practice is wonderful! I’ve primarily seen Michelle the nurse practitioner since I started going there and I adore that woman! Dr. Bowen is great as well! He recently did my second laparoscopy for endometriosis and I’m healing so much better then I did after the first one. I wasn’t too fond of the nurses at Bethesda North after I had my son, but the attitude I got from them would not make me change doctors with our next one. I’ll deal with the attitude because Dr. Bowen is amazing!

I and more importantly my wife had great experiences with Bowen too. In the 2.5 years between kids Bethesda North started incorporating what some would consider more woo woo practices into their standard care.

For our twins (3 years ago), we switched about 3 or 4 months in and my wife started seeing Dr Gerber at UC Hospital West Chester. It went well enough that my wife started seeing her for her regular gyn visits as well and actually became pretty good friends!

Welcome to the twins club though- it's an absolutely wild ride! If you have any questions about what to expect or what strategies you might need to handle them- feel free to ask. Also, I highly recommend seeing if whatever area you end up in has a parents/mothers of twins/multiples group. There's a pretty strong one up here that has been invaluable, both in terms of support and equipment (i.e. second hand strollers, clothes, shoes, etc, etc)

I go to the Christ hospital physicians group and see Dr Caligaris. I actually switched to them form For Women and don’t regret it for a second. I HIGHLY recommend them as a patient who has had two issue ridden pregnancies. They deliver at Christ obviously which is an excellent hospital with a NICU that can handle anything after 29 weeks.

I delivered my first at Good Sam who has the best level III NICU around but I would not suggest for women if you decide to deliver there.

For Women use Tri Health (Bethesda North and Good Samaritan) we delivered at Good Sam and had a very positive experience .. Good Sam has the highest level NICU and Childrens hospital is very close by

Regardless of hospital, take a good child birth class and I’d recommend a doula. They make the birth go so much smoother.

Thanks, we actually had a doula for our first child, and we really liked having her there. I think we’ll definitely look into it again for this delivery.
