Arizona Cardinals

Rd1: N'Keal Harry WR ASU

I see Harry I draft Harry. Best damn college WR to ever exist. No homer obviously.

Rd2: Taylor Rapp S Washington

Best safety in this class in my opinion and somehow snagged him in round 2. He's one of the most athletic safeties I've ever seen and combines that with an extremely well balanced skillset. He's an every down player and a positive contributor on passing and run plays. There is a good chance every media outlet will be comparing him to Harrison Smith at the start of the season.

Harry over Raekwon? Eh.

I was the Giants GM this time. My picks:

Trey Adams, OT, Washington:

Adams is one of the "big 3" OT prospects this year with Greg Little and Jonah Williams. I was a HUGE fan of his 2016 tape, and his early 2017 tape. He's got great size, length and athleticism for the OT position, all of which are critical. He's smart, knows where he needs to be at all times. He's got good, but not great foot speed in pass protection and great balance. He's got the lower body drive to be a difference maker in the run game. If you didn't know, I was probably the biggest Brian O'Neill fan out there, he was my top OT in last year's class and easily a top 20 pick in my eyes. Adams brings a lot of what O'Neill brought to the table and then some. His handwork is much better than O'Neill's, but his punch could be heavier. His pad level tends to rise a little as well, and his upper body strength/aggressiveness have been questioned in the past. I don't think those are real issues with him, but others do. In terms of fit, Adams can step in day 1 and play RT for the Giants, or push Nate Solder over to RT since he's not the best pass protector out there and I think Adams could possibly be better. Once Solder leaves, Adams could easily slide over to LT.

Amani Oruwariye, CB, Penn State:

AO (as I will be referring to him because that is quite the name) is a somewhat new name on our radars. His body of work is a bit small, he really hasn't been consistently on the field for Penn State through his first three years there. But he's got some solid traits (and most of the CBs I liked for this pick range were gone, it came down to him or Kendall Sheffield [Sorry, Enfyte] and AO won out because of some really glaring concerns I have with Sheffield, who is a much rawer prospect). He's got good size and length, and mirrors pretty well at the line of scrimmage in my opinion. He's got great instincts to come down onto a hitch or slant. He's got decent body control, though I feel he plays a bit tight and doesn't have great balance. He excels when he can see the receiver in front of him and read him. I'm a little concerned about his raw athletic ability, as he doesn't look particularly quick or twitchy or even fast on tape, so his athletic testing will be important. Quite honestly, I also forgot that the Giants took Sam Beal in the supplemental draft. If I had remembered what my own stupid team did, I might not have made this pick. But AO is a talented player and CB depth is important in the NFL. With Jackrabbit approaching the part of his deal where cutting him might possibly be worth it at some point and both he and Apple coming off of down years, a CB could definitely be a help just to make sure we're sound there. AO could also potentially play FS, as he generally plays better when he can see the routes develop in front of him, but that takes away the benefit of his great footwork at the line of scrimmage. Looking at it and the players I've scouted, I don't really know who else I would have preferred in this situation anyways.

On another note, I want to address why I didn't want to take a QB. I could have taken Brian Lewerke at 10, and considered Nate Stanley at 42 (places where I felt the value was okay for those players but not great). First off, I've always been a Davis Webb fan. Say what you will about that, disagree with me, whatever. But as of today, before the preseason starts, with the support that Eli has had from our front office and coaching staff, and the addition of both Webb and Lauletta over the last two years, I don't think the Giants are expecting to take a QB in next year's draft. I believe they want to ride it out with Eli and make that decision later on, whether Webb or Lauletta impresses them enough to be the starter or if they need to draft a QB early in a later year. I don't personally think that as of TODAY, August 7th, 2018, that a QB would be the pick. I would have been happy with a QB in the 2018 draft, I just think that the way the roster is right now, the decisions that have been made, and the "we're giving this another season to marinate" attitude, that the Giants going QB is a mistake. This could EASILY change by next April. This could change in the next MONTH if Webb and Lauletta shit the bed. But as of right now, I wouldn't take a QB, if I'm the Giants. Sorry apple.

WR in the top 5? Miss me with that shit, been that road one too many times

6
AlternateShapesBills•

If there were trades involved I would have definitely tried to trade down, but it's impossible to argue that WR isn't a pressing need on this team right now, and AJ Brown was arguably the best pick left for who was available.

8
Zorodude77Bills•

I like the pick, WR is undoubtedly our biggest weakness unless Coleman and Zay both pan out. Also love Greedy Williams in the second, surprised to see him drop that low.

1
Whats_a_webpage•

Can someone explain the Ravens pick to me? I don’t see the need for NT when we already have Brandon Williams and Michael Pierce

6
DoABarrowRollGiants•

My guess, knowing Charlie did the pick and knowing it's Dexter Lawrence: he's fucking good. He's absurdly fucking good. Best player available, by far. What else would you want to do? The WRs available were meh if you wanted one of those, I guess you could have gone cajuste, but now you have Orlando Brown so you might as well stick with that. I don't think there was an ILB available there that was worth it. Maybe you go edge and go for Ferrell instead, but Lawrence is just so much better than Ferrell is, he's probably a top 5-10 overall player.

2
hashcrackBengals•

I did Bengals and Dolphins AMA

5
PurelybetterDolphins•

Logic behind both picks please? Just curious. I agree with round 1. If we're pick 6, we need a QB.

As for round 2, it depends so much on this season. We have a lot invested into the LB position right now. We could use OL or DL probably too. Is it a BPA pick?

2
hashcrackBengals•

Allen was BPA. Was thinking a DT like Rashard Lawrence or Derrick Brown if he wasn't there.

3
PurelybetterDolphins•

Ok cool. Exact line of thought a Dolphins fan would've done in your spot. We may have went with a different position due to two top 3 LB picks in back to back drafts and the idea we're gonna run three safety sets, but that's way too much hypothetical.

Good job man.

1
AskMeAboutTheJetsDolphins•

Well Josh Allen is more of a pass rusher no? I think he’d be a DE in our defense. Next season there’s a possibility of losing at least two of Branch, Wake, Quinn, and Hayes. I definitely could see pass rusher as being a pretty big need next year.

1
2POTMSON•

If the bengals are picking top 5 we’re taking a QB.

0
hashcrackBengals•

Actually I took an OT in this one

3
2POTMSON•

No shit what im saying is that QB is where you should have looked if cincy picks top 5. Bengals can cut Dalton for no dead money after this year. If the season plays out as so Dalton’s out.

I am a Panthers fan and did the Saints pick. I like Jordan Ta'amu more than you. You guys need a Drew Brees replacement at some point whether you like it or not.

Love the first two picks

Right tackle is still a rotating door for us so adding another staple to finish off our line would be great. Then in 3-5 years Little can take over at left for Castanzo.

Everyone knows I love Dre’Mont Jones. If training camp hype is real we may not need a 3T (Denico Autry) like I originally thought, but we will see

The running back pick was questionable for me. We have made it clear we are a RBBC team and we’ve spent 3 picks on running backs in the past 2 years. Mack appears to be a mainstay and Hines is doing good as a scat back. Would have much preferred a linebacker or a corner in that situation.

JAGS GM:

Round 1: Brian Lewerke, I’m still not sold on Blake and he’s my QB2 over Herbert. I loved the value here

Round 2: Max Scharping, OT. I’m a huge fan of Max and his pass protection and he has potential to become a great run blocker as well imo, I think he’s a long-term starter at LT or RT.

2
ACG_YuriJaguars•

Half-expected Woodside lol

2
MrBuster83Jaguars•

Much as I like Lewerke, don't really see anything out of him yet that'd make me want him in the first round. Would much rather keep Cody Kessler over drafting Lewerke, and I don't like the idea of Kessler as a starter.

1
IIHURRlCANEIIChiefs•

Chiefs second round picks don't make a ton of sense. We drafted two edge guys in the second round the past two years, and we are only losing Dee Ford after this year.

Also the LB pick makes 0 sense when we have Reggie Ragland and Anthony Hitchens.

2
PM-ME-A-PRIME-NUMBERJets•

The Jets traded our 2019 2nd round pick in the Sam Darnold trade with Indy. There were four options:

Ed Oliver is not a normal human being, and I mean that in the absolute best way possible. At 6'2" 290, Oliver requires a double-team on every snap, because even top-tier O-Linemen can't handle his quickness nor his strength. Even while double-teamed, Oliver can tackle runners in the backfield. He even has the lateral quickness to disrupt screen passes. He’s straight-up the best player available, and he would pair up with Leonard Williams to form a dominant 3-4 DE tandem.

Weighing in at 340 lbs, Dexter Lawrence is an extremely large individual. He's definitely got the size and strength to play nose in the NFL, but he's also got the agility to occasionally line up outside of guards as well. Lawrence makes it extremely difficult for offenses to run up the middle of the field, and he generates pressure in 1-on-1 situations as well. Steve McLendon is a dominant nose, but he’s 32 years old and only has one year left on his deal. The Jets could take Lawrence early as McLendon’s replacement.

Nick Bosa is shifty with a really nice first step. Bosa uses his wide array of pass rushing moves and his hip fluidity to get around tackles with ease and generate consistent pressure on quarterbacks. Bosa is also strong in the run game, routinely maneuvering offensive linemen to collapse running lanes. The Jets’ biggest need in the post-Shaun Ellis era has been pass rusher, and Nick Bosa could fill that void. Bosa would play in place of Josh Martin or David Bass at outside linebacker.

Greg Little has the bulk and the strength to take on any type of edge rusher. Though his exceptional mauling abilities may lead some to believe that Little is best suited to be a right tackle in the NFL, Little's hand usage and leverage in the passing game could make him an elite left tackle in just a few years. Though Kelvin Beachum is locked up for 2019, he’s not an elite blocker. The Jets could add a stud tackle to help protect Sam Darnold, and Little could replace the mediocre Brandon Shell in 2019.

In the end, I decided not to overthink things. I went with Ed Oliver, the clear best player available. I’d be happy to answer any questions.

2
dsmiles13Jets•

I'd have to go with Bosa here as our need for a dominant OLB heavily outweighs more DE/DL even one as good as Oliver. Because I value both of them top 3 prospects in this class as blue chip immediate Pro Bowl contributors, the need for an OLB allows Bosa to be our better safer pick. Or draft Little to he our LT of the future and sign both Lawrence and Clowney in the off season to be the pass rush force we've needed to finish out games

6
woodchips24Jets•

Yeah, we've already tried having a bunch of good interior DL. Didn't really do as much as we would've hoped. Bosa could take our defense to another level

1
Keyash_moneyGoodell•

Browns GM, Nick Bosa and Bryan Edwards ama roast me bby

2
Lumpycentaur9Browns•

Is Bosa a pick of BPA, or has the Emmanuel Ogbah train come to a full stop in your eyes after this season? I love the pick because we get a more athletic Joey Bosa to pair with Myles Garrett, but I'm just curious because most Browns fans are in love with Ogbah for some reason...

1
Keyash_moneyGoodell•

I love Ogbah but see him doing better at a 3T so we’d kick him inside and have a line of Garrett-Larry-Ogbah-Bosa. I’ve always been on Ogbahs side throughout his time cause I had a first round grade on him coming out

3
Lumpycentaur9Browns•

That sounds so badass. Unfortunately, that probably won't happen because a) we'll pick someone else when Bosa is still on the board because we need a LT or b) we fuck up our tank job and "win too many games" so we're out of the top-3 entirely...

2
Mbrr1214Patriots•

Patriots and Eagles GM feel free to give a critique on either draft!

1
DeludedYinzerSteelers•

This is obviously before the season so things can definitely change. But I think Khalil Hodge in the second is a little too rich for my blood. He looks like an alright athlete on tape but I don't like his instincts right now. He definitely has a chance to go this high based on his athleticism but I wouldn't feel great about it at this point

2
Mbrr1214Patriots•

I was really torn between him and Dakota Allen and I went with the bigger frame. Thanks for your feedback! Any other linebackers I should watch that weren’t picked here?

1
BanditRoverBlitzrSpyRedskins•

I'm actually shocked that 7 linebackers were drafted but the Miami linebackers were left out. Paddy Fisher is also a favorite of mine but I think his athleticism will keep him out of the top 2 rounds.

1
ZmallMattEagles•

If the Eagles get David Montgomery at the very end of the 2nd I will be so happy. Wouldn't mind him in the first assuming we don't re-sign Ajayi

2
ctpatsfan77Patriots•

I would like this a lot better with a QB in the first.

1
Mbrr1214Patriots•

The QB I would’ve taken I got at the very next pick

2
bshendyBears•

I drafted for the Bears. We only had 1 pick which was the #3 pick in the first round. First and foremost, I'd like to say that if we were to have the #3 pick, I think we'd trade down before anything else.

I picked Joe Jackson. Joe Jackson is whopping 6'5" and 260 lbs. I definitely believe that Joe Jackson doesn't get enough hype. His length and size is something to drool over. Joe Jackson has above average speed, flexibility, and the overall athletic ability to succeed in the NFL. There are quite a few instances where Jackson is the first person off the line.

The only thing is, is that he needs to work on his pass rush moves and learn to use his hands. He has the athletic ability to dip and bend and the physical characteristics to long-arm. He just needs to string it together. Once he does, I think he can be a force in the NFL.

1
BanditRoverBlitzrSpyRedskins•

Love Jackson as well, do you see him as a better edge prospect than Ferrell, Sweat, and Gary though?

1
bshendyBears•

I like him as a better Edge prospect than all of them. The only thing's he's lacking are things he can learn, which are pass rush moves.

1
Final_SmashBrowns•

Solid for Cleveland. We won't be picking that high but Garrett and Bosa would be ridiculous.

Depending on how Bitonio and Corbett do at LT and LG, an OT like Little or Adams would be the pick. If not, Davis or Lawrence is a shoo-in.

1
2POTMSON•

“We won’t be picking that high” said every browns fan the last decade

15
Lumpycentaur9Browns•

We won't be picking that high

How many years have Browns fans been saying this? I've lost count. I'd love to see improvement, but I'll believe it when I see it. We're picking in the top-3 until we're not...

4
SwedishLovePumpPackers•

i hope DK Metcalf has a good year because i've already decided i'm going to hype him all season and I'd hate for him to ESB me.

1
bshendyBears•

From what I've heard ESB is looking good in Packers camp.

1
SwedishLovePumpPackers•

He's shown more consistency than J'Mon Moore or MVS, but all three have shown flashes, along with Yancey and Kumerow. The WR depth chart is still wide open. He's looked better than your typical 6th-round pick, but he's got a long way to go to redeem me for calling him a top-40 guy.

1
staple2000Seahawks•

He was my #2 WR in the whole class last year, and I'll stand by it if you will.
