What's the fin for?

It's a dumb CA law. The fin makes the AK featureless since the only evil feature would be the pistol grip. Can't have a flash hider, collapsible stock or pistol grip on a semi-auto center fire rifle. We can either have it fixed mag or featureless.

My mistake. It's the lighting. Before is when I picked it up from my FFL. After is when I was done working on it outdoors.

Oh no, it’s retarded.
Only when it's home. When I shoot in Nevada the fin comes right off.
Personally I’d keep the fin off at home, would only put it on when taking outside of house to the range.
Should you ever need it in an unfortunate circumstance such as an intruder you can easily put it back on before police arrive. I’m not one to advocate breaking laws, you do you, but I wouldn’t want to limit my ability to wield the rifle properly, especially considering how destructive 7.62 can be.
I have other solutions for HD. The AK would be a last resort.
