The Visit
In that wonderful moment, I saw you at last.
Your eyes were the color of peas.
Your scraggly hair I had seen in years past,
now so long it reached down past your knees.
--
It had been seven years since I'd seen your fat face
for you chose to live oceans away.
Before your arrival, I cleaned up my place
so you wouldn't have bad stuff to say.
--
I made you your favorite lasagna with meat,
the top of it crusted with cheese.
We went for a walk down on Aguilar street
and gabbed about life overseas.
--
My favorite brother, you do make me laugh;
When you joke I've a stitch in my side.
You told me the tale of your most recent gaffe;
I'm so glad that you took it in stride.
--
You told me a story of when you were sloshed
(You always were prone to some drama).
You went with a pear to the zoo where you noshed
and there were found kissing a llama.
--
You yarned me a good one; I fell for it hard
when you said you’d adopted a gerbil.
I knew I'd been had but it caught me off guard
when you said that this gerbil was verbal.
--
Your silliest story that I hadn't heard
was the one where you rode on a donkey.
You wore your pajamas? Now that is absurd!
Your judgement's incredibly wonky.
--
My dearest big brother, my funniest friend,
are you certain that you'll need to leave?
I'd rather this visit go on without end.
When you're gone, I am sure I will grieve.
