PSA: Check to see if your PM number is eligible for Koodo's $45/8GB plan

Pinned

Go here: https://www.koodomobile.com/bring-your-own-phone

  1. Add a SIM card to your shopping cart.
  2. Enter this promo code: JOINKOODOCRP
  3. Enter your current PM number as a validation code.
  4. If it works, then you'll see a green check mark and you'll be able to add the $45/8GB promo plan.

It looks like they've opened up the offer to all PM customers with active lines up until Tuesday, August 7th. I tried my friend's number and it didn't work because he signed up after August 7th. The other 2 numbers I tried worked and they have no history with Koodo so it's no longer a Koodo "win back" offer.

The offer is available until August 21st.

EDIT: If you're going to switch, then don't forget to sign up with a referral to get $50 in 4-8 weeks. You'll need to register your email before signing up with Koodo in order to be eligible. Head on over to r/KoodoReferrals for one.

Please don't forget to contact either of us if you signed up for the migration offer and submitted your name as a PM referrer! It'll help a lot of people from wasting time!

If i order a sim to and a plan and they mail the sim to me when does my PM account shut down and become ported?

1
IEpicDestroyerContributor•

It doesn't. If you opt to port the number, I think you still need to request them to complete it as they don't port the number until you receive the SIM.

1
DrVanostrand•

I'm eligible, but I also just topped up $120 for the next three months. I wonder if they would give me credits equal to this if I phoned in?

2
AnaronOP•

Unfortunately, they won't.

3
jessejericho•

I just got offered $40 / 8GB, conveniently only a few days after my $120 top up. Exact same timing as the last offer.

2
DrVanostrand•

Same, but if you look at the $40/8GB details, you get $180 in credit to make up for that loss (so if you just dropped $120 you're actually coming out on top with an extra $60).

I actually tried calling them for this, they won't do it.

1
AnaronOP•

I believe it's online or in-store only.

1
Uncertn_Laaife•

Just use all your available data that you paid for until your Koodo plan gets activated. This is what i am on to. At least i would have ended up using all my data that I paid for.

1
ScarbierianRider•

I tried it just now and it didnt work for my phone number even though I'm on the $120 for 12gb plan from years ago.

2
thirsty-turtle-18•

What you post is correct. I signed up with Public Mobile last Tuesday (which was actually the 7th not the 8th), and my number is eligible for the Koodo offer using the instructions posted here.

1
AnaronOP•

Thanks for confirming that and for the correction. It's a great deal for anyone that's currently on a $45 plan without any significant referral discounts.

1
Dralejr•

Will this work in a koodo store? I leave for a month tomorrow, and according to the website it needs to be shipped to the billing address, so I can't change that.

1
AnaronOP•

You should be able to sign up in-store. Keep in mind that you'll likely get charged a $30 connection fee.

1
Dralejr•

Guess I'll try in a bit, thanks. Do you know if I could order the sim now with the plan, but not activate it till after the 21st? Or is it activated right away when I order it?

1
AnaronOP•

I'm pretty sure it's activated right away. I can't think of a way to defer the activation. You can sign up now and eat the cost or wait and hope for a similar or better offer.

esketittttttt•

Long shot but any chance I sign up for PM today and be eligible for the Koodo plan?

1
AnaronOP•

It's unlikely but who knows. My buddy signed up recently and his number isn't eligible. I'm going to check again in a few days.

2
esketittttttt•

Thanks. Sucks to miss out haha

1
TotalBismuth•

Eh given Koodo's reputation, I'm afraid simply checking for eligibility will sign me up for a 3-year service plan.

1
AnaronOP•

Contracts aren't a thing anymore.

2
frolickingdonkey•

r/koodoreferrals could use a referral bot :)

1
IEpicDestroyerContributor•

Did actually thought of offering one for r/Koodo, but it seemed like the current system was working so I ignored it. Dedicated subreddit for spam...

Sev72•

ugh..my planned renewed 2 days ago. Probably would've switched, but thought it was targeted.

1
AnaronOP•

It was a targeted offer at first. The 2 PM numbers I tried didn't work the first few times. But it did today. Are you on a multi-month plan?

1
Sev72•

I'm on the 90day/$120 plan. so yeah multi month.

1
MortyBingle•

Thanks for the post!! I entered my number. It gave me the green checkmark. I went through the entire process right up to the final submit button, and then got an error saying their checkout services are unavailable, and to try again later or at a store.

The only thing that sucks, is I just renewed a 3 month term with PM. But also willing to lose that for the increase in data. (I'm almost always going over and having to buy extra data, at $30 per gig)

1
AnaronOP•

Try a different web browser and if that doesn't work, then a few hours later. If you go in-store, then they'll charge you a $30 connection fee.

1
MortyBingle•

Ah, good idea. I'll try in a little while with IE or FF.

Thanks.

2
MortyBingle•

Hmm...strange. My credit card shows two, $0 charges from Koodo. Does that mean it went through?

1
AnaronOP•

That's most likely the credit pre-authorization. I think most companies do that after you input your credit card information during the checkout process.

1
TimmmmehGMC•

Wicked find! I'm elligble but have junky credit and almost no use for extra data.

1
citrusee•

This didn't work. I entered the promo code, all caps, and got this error message:

"Oops! This promo code isn't valid. Make sure this code can be used online or check that you've entered the correct info. Codes are case sensitive."

1
AnaronOP•

I just tried it now and the code works. What province do you live in? I'm wondering if there's a restriction.

1
citrusee•

I'm in Alberta, you?

1
AnaronOP•

Ontario. I just tried it with my region set to AB and it worked. Try it in a private/incognito browsing window.

2
citrusee•

Ah! The incognito browsing window worked!

tpd80•

Does the $45 koodo plan have voice mail and call display?

1
AnaronOP•
2
Ajax_The_Bulwark•

Will koodo let you buy a phone from them to use on this plan? Either before or after you sign up?

1
AnaronOP•

The plan itself is BYOP-only. You can buy a phone after you get the plan but I don't know if you can put a tab on it.

2
Ajax_The_Bulwark•

Thank you, if I can do a tab I may be switching tomorrow!

1
sglrd•

The plan actually does work with both Small or Medium tabs.

3
Ajax_The_Bulwark•

My girlfriend and I want to sign up, both of us are eligible. We want to use the referral, but want to order online. Will we be able to do this before the offer expires? It says the sim will take 3-5 business days. Can we redeem the offer and get the referral before getting the sim?

1
AnaronOP•

I don't think you can start referring someone until after you've activated and made a referral account. I think the best thing you can do is both use a referral separately. You'll need to sign up to use a referral before activating otherwise the referral won't work.

2
Ajax_The_Bulwark•

I don't think the sim will arrive before the 21st. Will koodo honor the plan I order with, or should I just go to a store?

1
sglrd•

If you order online and are able to select the plan prior to the 21st deadline, Koodo will still honour the promotion whenever the SIM comes in. After the deadline, the promo code will no longer work on the site and/or the $45/8gb will not be an available option.

And as the post above mentions, you can't refer someone until you activate the SIM and get a koodo number, which won't happen for a few days if you order online. You could try going in-store, but there may be additional fees for the hook-up.

TheCollegePanda•

Does anyone know how long it will take for the Koodo SIM card to arrive after ordering it online? I'm interested in switching over from PM but afraid the SIM card won't arrive before I leave for vacation this Friday (also want to avoid that $30 in-store connection fee)

1
Kokuei05•

They take a few days to do the credit check, they then ship the sim using Xpresspost.

2
TheCollegePanda•

Thank you! Does the switch take effect immediately if I do it online (PM SIM card won’t work anymore)?

1
ScarbierianRider•

No you'll have to call in to transfer your number.

1
RockyMountainRider•

Made the switch a few weeks ago. Called in when they came out with the $40/8gb plan and managed to get switched to that with $120 in bill credits.

1
atheoncrutch•

Anyone getting the offer to switch while on the $10 PM plan?

1
MentalMidget3•

Fuck me. Someone used my number. Does anyone know if it's still possible to get a promo deal if I were to go in store?
