Betting on a pixel

Pixel 2 XL

So... after reviewing leaks of the Pixel 3 XL, I have decided that I want to purchase a 2 XL. My concern is over quality of the device. I am looking to purchase one via Swappa with a 3rd party warranty.

Most of what I see in the subreddit is a lot of complaints and stories over failure of devices. I tend to think people with problems are more vocal than those without issue, however it seems that a lot of these cases people receive multiple refurbished devices that end up with the same or similar issues again. I currently am using an iPhone 8 Plus, but am more familiar with android (I used to develop roms and modify apk files when I was younger etc), and would love to return to a stock android experience.

Do you guys think this device is worth purchasing, or am I in for headaches?

Ok. Just grabbed one new in the box with a warranty. I'll be part of the gang when it gets here!

See if the seller is the original owner. If they are, ask if they can transfer ownership of the phone to your Gmail account. That way you'll have the manufacturer warranty until around 2020. It's as simple as chatting with Google's support.

That’s what I’m working on. I found a new one in the box, guy says it was a gift. I told him if he provides the order ID I would purchase it from him.

This is the right answer. Buying from original owner that can provide email/original order ID will make sure you can put warranty claims until 2020 if something goes wrong. Pixel 2s have 2 years of warranty which is great.

Yea your thought is right, whereas Apple users and Samsung users go to the store , Google Pixel users just have the internet as first help, and then maybe chat-support, then internet again. Well.. you see the reason it may look like blown up right? ;)

I’m furiously looking for one right now, but not finding what I want :/

I’m going to take the risk. I bet it’s a great phone.

Well.. it is a bit of tricky question btw. I dont have any numbers but I remember Pixel 1 was all over the internet too, and the issues were like just around 0.1% of the user base. I think it may br the same for pixel 2/2XL but I dont have any numbers there.

But what I am able to tell you for sure: I am hesitating to recommend any pixel to my relatives without being worried they could get a defective device. I am not in NA, so getting it replaced or having it repaired will be very difficult takes a long time... Hope Google brings their American support soon to Europe. Its again surprising that they didnt do anything right here, especially in Switzerland, bc heres the biggest headquarter outside the US

i have an og pixel and am still unsure over what to upgrade to when the time comes. i love a bare android os, but it's such an inconsistent experience on this hardware. the only thing that is certain is that my battery life will suck.

Hmm.. I will give Google another chance. I mean. As a hardware company Google is such a newbie ! It doesnt matter how big Google itself is, they've real hardware employees since they've bought that hardware section of HTC so I expect them to have much better hardware than before starting with the Pixel 3

You're always going to see more negative than positive feedback anywhere on the internet, because most satisfied customers don't feel compelled to be vocal about their satisfaction.

That said, the 2 XL is still very much a lottery, in that you're gambling on getting a device with issues. When my wife and I bought ours early in the year we were worried, but ended up getting two devices with no issues.

Bought it. My phone has no blue screen. Everything works as intended. I am thoroughly impressed with this device. Don’t know why I didn’t get one sooner.

Mine didn't have any problems either actually, but I think with all the documented issues it's had, it's still a luck of the draw king of thing.

Yeah, it's worth the purchase!

I mean, I gave up and bit the bullet of a slightly grainy screen after my 3rd replacement... don't really have to energy to drive over to UPS everyday lol. That being said, I absolutely love this phone. It has a lot going for it, mostly comes down to whether or not you can be ok with one that isn't "store model" quality in your hands... and if you get a well manufactured one then make sure to celebrate!
