Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel: Synopsis? please help

I read Sleeping Giants awhile ago but I don't remember much of the plot. The sequel is now in my library queue but it started referencing some crazy spoilers from the last book that I have no memory of. Can anyone point me to or give me a brief synopsis for Sleeping Giants?

I just finished this trilogy. It’s about finding these random gigantic metal human shaped parts across the world. Then finding two pilots to control the giant once fully put together. One guy has backwards legs so he can steer the giants legs. The woman controls the top half. They end up becoming a couple. Their first mission is to go to Korea where hey ultimately choose to not kill anyone.

I'm stuck on the beginning of the 2nd book where she says she's a clone of the original scientist woman. Does she die in the first book? Can you refresh me on that part?

Well you don’t find out exactly what happened there until later. But it has to do with the old man that the interviewer meets for lunch. Idk if you remember him but he has certain technology that was used to materialize a copy of her. The only problem was that it was a 4 year old copy so she doesn’t have any memory of anything lately. Book 1 is the best. Book 2 is great. I was disappointed in book 3.

Ok. I'm not forgetting some extraordinary event from the first book. Thanks

Nope. Give it some time.

She does die in a blast accident at some point hence the need for the clone copy. I can’t remember when but it’s very brief and I found it odd until you get more answers later.
