The Storyteller
The storyteller wove her tales
while children shrieked with joy.
She told of ships with rainbow sails
bearing loads of toys.
--
She told of princes far away
who sailed across the seas
to see what purple dragons say
while guarding golden peas.
--
She told of princesses who flew
without the need for wings.
She told of one who turns dark blue
when magic fairies sing.
--
She told of cabbages that talk
and beets that like to dance.
She told of Aspen trees that walk
and dates that wear green pants.
--
She told of elephants who skip
and dandelions who wink.
She told of crocodiles who flip
into a silver sink.
--
She told of tiny tabby cats
whose meows could reach the moon.
She told of towers of party hats
that hummed your favorite tune.
-- She told of fuzzy teddy bears
who like to golf at night.
She told of fruits called sparkle pears
that sparkle when you bite.
--
She told of giant sticky buns.
Her stories made them grin.
She told her tales to anyone
who’d sit and listen in.
