To Do
To-do,
To-day:
Face the…
Highway? No…
Face the “lies,
Honestly told.”
That the man working
On top of the bus station
Was suicidal,
And so I can be.
That people
Haven’t solved hate
Because they are binary,
And my newfound perspective
Will lead me to legacy
(Not that I want it).
That I will move
Back to Texas,
Where the people are honest
Unlike here,
And so I can be discontented
For now.
That I will stay
Here in Boston,
To live like Thoreau
And breathe the mist
Of James Fenimore Cooper,
Or Melville,
And so I can be immobile.
That I get sad
Because of human pain
Or an inside
Glitch, and so I can stay
Inside my head
To try to solve it.
That the reason
I don’t work out
Is because I don’t
Have time.
That my bad habits
Are ingrained in the wood
Of my heart,
And so I cannot change,
Only quell.
That my love is
Waiting for
Skin.
That I have grown
To be a thinker
Without being thoughtless,
And the only work left
Is to sit pensively.
That my life
Is new and bold;
That my life is a rerun,
Old.
That my future is in my hands;
That my future is out of my hands.
That I know what I want. That I should.
That what we do matters.
That nothing matters.
That life will come if I am patient.
That I am stuck.
That I am alone.
