Eminence

This is my first submission here, please be gentle ahaha. This poem is about a year old and was written at a time when I was really struggling with life, spirituality, mental health, substance abuse, etc. Writing is a coping mechanism for me and is more about translating my thoughts and feelings in the most raw and natural manner possible, as opposed to reading smoothly. Poetry isn't my bread and butter, I'm more of a blog/novel/essay kinda person. Please feel free to give any criticism you have though.
Eminence
Clouds draw overhead
Casting shadows in muted purple.
Souls take flight,
Minds retreat,
Consciousness remains.
An ache
Known more intimate by my gut
Than by my reason
Takes hold,
Sets loose the swans.
Guided only by nature
We take flight,
We seek truths known only by the gods.
Born of clay,
Eyes bend to the horizon.
Ever changing shapes
My mind can't bear to see.
Slivers of purple pierce my soul,
Scratch the landscape bare.
The gods stand atop the hill…..
Screaming.
A private apocalypse.
An ache known more intimate by me
Than by you.
You form me of clay
Set me loose in the maze
And strike me down at every turn.
My lungs full of bitterness heave,
Turn in on themselves
And dampen the disquiet.
The horizon gleams,
Smug in it's celestial command.
Eminence.
An ache
Known more intimate by us
Than by the gods
Turns us towards the grave.
The smoke in my lungs
Crafts a barrow.
The clay from which we are born
Envelopes us when we are gone.
The gods stand atop the hill…..
Clutching roots….
Screaming.
